On Negativity......
In a comment to a friend, I made a realisation that, if I don't write down, I will forget.
I have spoken here before about the negativity in fandom and that it upsets me profoundly, but I could never quite put my finger on why.
Writing that comment, I realised why her negativity -- when it comes -- doesn't impact me as awfully as some others do.
There are some reviews that, when I read them, I can almost TASTE the anger and the bitterness and the disappointment and the sheer HATE behind the words. Those are the reviews that turn my stomach and send my mood plummeting and make me want to cry.
Last night's episode was disappointing in some ways, but my friend's review -- while negative -- had an undertone of love and hope underneath it. It was negative, but it wasn't NEGATIVE, if that makes any sense.
So that's why some negative reviews hit me like a punch and others are more 'okay, I can see why you feel that way'.
