Summary: The Pad was always there. And the Pad was always home.
It had been built in the early 1930s. When it was new, it was gorgeous.
With its art-deco wrought-iron tornado staircase as its premier selling point, it was never shy of occupants. Once the realised the treasure they had, each occupant remodeled it.
One added the balcony and bay windows. Another added the stairs from the balcony to the beach. A third added a full bath upstairs and expanded the one attached to the downstairs bedroom into a second full bath. Then he added a half-bath where a closet used to be.
And the final one before 1965 added a washer and dryer in the basement.
In 1965, four young men moved in. In 1966, they formed a band called The Monkees. In 1967, these four young men were switched with four nearly-identical young men - also called the Monkees.
Except that these Monkees had super-powers.
The building - which they renamed the Pad - became their sanctuary. Their home.
Peter was the first to marry. And when he did, he was the one to initiate what would become the Monkees' trademark.
Each of the married ones was what they termed "bi-residential." There was always at least one single one living at the Pad. Each of the married ones had their own places - one of them a huge mansion!
But each one of them also periodically moved back into the Pad -- with their wife in tow.
One of them was nearly constantly home - and the Pad was always there.
And the Pad was always home.
