December 29th: More Go

Dec 29, 2008 19:59

Photos on the 29th involve more Go.

First the obligatory "top table" game: Lluis Oh, of La Pedra in Spain, is on the left, playing Chi-Min Oh, currently of Berlin, Germany, on the right. In the background, Mike Nash and Jiri Keller are relaying the games over IGS, a server, where people all over the world are watching and, no doubt, commenting madly on the game.

Yes, as far as I know both Mr Oh and Chi-Min are of Chinese origin; there are, however, relatively few Chinese family names and I don't believe they're related. Mr Oh's been in Spain for more than a year, Chi-Min in Germany for about a month. (And after two tournaments Chi-Min is ranked 7th in Europe - someone to watch, here!)

Slightly - though only slightly - down the tournament rankings we have Merlijn Kuin of the Netherlands playing Matt Cocke of the UK. These two are personal photographic bugbears of mine - aside from being friends, it should be said, who I'm reasonably sure won't be offended by this if they read it - because in the face of all logic there are so few decent photos of either of them out there. There is no logical reason that this should be so. They just never seem to be captured properly. And as you can see, I haven't succeeded here, either. I shall just have to keep trying ...
