Vacation Gone Wrong (Henwook oneshot)

UGH. I was so excited to visit my family. Why did everything turn against me? The first day wasn’t that bad… well, every day would have been amazing if it wasn’t for my brain pulling things on me. Stupid thing, every ten minutes a picture of my hyung pops into my head. WHY. This is what I don’t understand. ANYWAY. That’s the only thing I don’t like about this right now. My family here in Canada has been the greatest. They were all there at the airport waiting for me. I was so happy. It’s been 4 years since I’ve been back in Canada. They were all so grateful. Man I love my family. They even cooked me a HUGE barbeque for when I got there. It tasted SO GOOD to have Canadian food again. I forgot how good it was. MMmmmmm. But, yeah, after that I met all the new family members… The kids my cousin had. Twins… They are so cute. Sarah and Jade. Then we went around town and things like that. Nothing has changed much, but there are a few new buildings around. And now I’m here typing this on my laptop. I’m going to try and write on here every night so that I don’t forget anything. Well, that’s all for today. I’ll write again tomorrow. Anyway, I try and get through the night. Bye for now.

Henry Lau.

Henry saved his word document to his desktop and was about to turn his computer off when all of a sudden something pops up. “I wonder what this is…” Henry thinks out loud. He opens the popup and sees that ‘Super Junior’ wants to start a webcam chat. “WHAT! Since when did they have a webcam?!” Henry goes to close it because it’s like, 2:30 in the morning, but then reconsiders. “Let’s see who’s there…” Henry accepts and it was probably the worst thing he could have done. There sitting in front of the webcam is his hyung, Ryeowook. “OH NO” Henry thinks to himself. Ryeowook has been the one Henry’s brain had decided to use for its dirty tricks all day long. Henry didn’t understand why the world was being so cruel to him today. When he looked at Ryeowook through the webcam he didn’t understand at all, but then Ryeowook spoke. “His voice” Henry thought. And in that instant, Henry turned bright red.

“Hey Henliiii, How is your trip so far?” Since Henry is flush red, he stares at the key bored and starts to type, because he doesn’t have a microphone.

*It’s going good Ryeowook, even though I’ve only been here for 6 hours* Henry presses Enter and keeps staring at the keyboard.

“Awwwh Henli, I can’t understand English that well, I wish I could just hear your voice…” and two seconds later Henry is a darker shade of red.

“WHY THE HELL AM I BLUSHING” Henry yells through his mind. “Stop it! Right now.” But nothing happens. He’s still a bright shade of red.

“Henli? Are you ok? You look red… do you have a cold?” Ryeowook asks with worry in his voice.

*No Wookie, I’m fine, it’s just really warm here* Henry can’t take this much longer, he HAS to get off the computer before his hyung’s voice melts his brain.

*I got to go to bed now hyung, its 2:30am here, and I’m really tired*

“Ok Henli, have fun in Canada with your family. We miss you, I miss you.”

Henry is at a loss for words. All he can type is *I miss you to hyung, night.* and that’s the end of their conversation. Henry shuts off his computer and flops himself onto his old bed. He can’t believe what just happened. When did this start happening?! Henry thinks back and is flabbergasted. Ever since he met Ryeowook, he always felt a little flustered around him; he just didn’t notice it till now. “Oh god” Henry lets out as his mother walks into his room.

She has a sad look on her face, looks like she was crying.

“Mom, what’s wrong?!” Henry asks in a concerned voice.

“Henry, you remember the old man across the street… right?” his mother asks, starting to cry again.

“Mom,” Henry gets up and goes to hug her. How could he forget that silly old man, he was like a father to him. “Of course I remember him, how could I forget.”

“Henry… he had a heart attack. He’s in the hospital and the doctors don’t think he’s going to make it much longer…” His mother gets out after a few tries and a tear slips down her face. No. Not this, not NOW. Why, why was this happening to him? He couldn’t find the answer.

“……… Oh no…. NO.” and that’s when he lost it. The next three hours he sat on his bed crying. That old man was the one who taught him to sing, the one who helped him get where he is now. He couldn’t believe this was happening. He decided to turn his laptop back on and write in his journal again, but when he tried, all his fingers did was hover over the keyboard. He couldn’t type it, he didn’t want to believe it. Then all of a sudden something pops up again. Henry clicks it and all it says is…

*Henli… what’s wrong?” How did he know? His hyung always knew when he felt like crap.

*hyung, you remember me telling you about the old man that I lived next to?*

*Of course Henli, why? What’s wrong?*

*Well…* Henry tells Ryeowook what happened to the old man and he starts to cry again.

*Henry…* Wookie never calls him ‘Henry’ *I got to go, I’ll talk to you in a bit ok?*
And like that, he was offline. Henry couldn’t understand. He felt betrayed. All he could do was throw himself onto his bed and cry himself to sleep.

The next morning Henry wakes up to the sound of the doorbell. He looks over at the clock and it says 7:00am. Who the HELL would be at the door at 7 in the morning? He tried to ignore it but then He heard his mom say “OH YES, please come in. He’s still asleep. He had a rough night last night. I’ll make some coffee.” And then a familiar “Thank you.” Followed. Wait… Henry didn’t think it would be possible. He just heard that voice last night, but it was sitting in their dorm in Korea. WHAT?!

Henry quickly gets dressed and runs downstairs still half asleep. When he goes to run into the kitchen, he stops in the doorway. When he sees whose sitting at the table, everything from last night comes back to him in a flash. Before anyone could say anything, he’s running back up to his room. All Ryeowook and Mrs. Lau heard is the slam of a door. Mrs. Lau starts to make her way out of the kitchen when Ryeowook cuts in. “Mrs. Lau, let me go talk to him.” And with that Ryeowook is outside Henry’s door, wondering what he should say. So instead of saying anything, he just opens Henry’s door and walks in.

He didn’t believe what he saw. Henry was laying on his bed, tears running down his face. Ryeowook’s instincts kicked in and he hurried over to the bed and lays down next to him. He took the boy in his arms and Henry snuggled into his hyungs chest and tried to sniffle back the tears.

“ It’s ok Henli, you can cry if you want to.” And with that Henry wrapped his arms around Ryeowooks waist, pressed his face against his chest even harder and cried. Ryeowook let him cry, and stroked his hair, hoping that his little Henry would be ok. After Henry was done crying, they went downstairs, and with the support of Ryeowook’s heart, they went to see his old friend in the hospital hand in hand.

That night, Old Man Rick died peacefully in his sleep. The nurse had told Henry that when they told him that he wasn’t going to make it, all he could talk about was how Henry would be when he found out. But when the old man saw Henry come in with Ryeowook, and how they were with each other, he knew Henry would be ok. He knew that Henry had finally found someone to share his world with. And because of that, he left with a smile on his face.

And Henry finally realized why his mind played those tricks on him.
