I can't believe next week is Halloween. I don't even have a pumpkin yet. Well, not one to carve.

I don't think I'm going to do NaNo this year because I just don't feel a novel in me. I finally opened up what I wrote last year and read the first couple of pages. They didn't suck like I remembered and there was actually a line in there that made me laugh. So I think I have something to work with.

I've been reading a lot about ghosts in the last couple of weeks to psyche myself up for some short story attempts. While I was writing last year, I really felt that I lost my main character's character about halfway through and that most of my other characters were pretty one-dimensional. So I thought this year, instead of trying for a novel, I'll spend November writing short stories set in the world I created featuring some of my characters as an exercise for really getting to know them.

Maybe some will come out decent enough that I'll shop them around a bit.
