Last week i went with
uitlander to scotland for a week, and it was good.
We went up two mountins and saw Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and Loch ness, and a few other things.
uitlander's account gives more details
here.
It was a long drive there and back but it was worth it. The cottage was nice, infact i'm wishing i was still there with all the space, it was masive. It was odd not to have the sound of wirling PC's, but we soon recitfied that with laptops networked togeter. Saying that, the house was so big that if you played music at one end, you didnt hear it at te other. Nice. Made it very easy to just sleep and sleep there - except that would have been a waist of some good hills. We had a nice veiw out the window of aberfeldy and river tay, which at night you had its little twinking lights. I like old buildings, they somehowe feel more comftable. Old house in the middle of nowhee with a view - fantastic! (No broudband thought ;) ) The mountin walking was good, althought the weather was a bit disapoiting. Still i think we made the most of what we got.
Discovered one problem with planning your rountes with maps ahead of time - there is no indication of what the ground is like. At one point we did end up on very springy mixture of heather, which really slowed down things. Give me rolling bolders anytime, like up the second mountin.
I've been up tall things before (which is cool), but up the top of Schiehallion i found sometihng new. You could sit back behind a shelterd area and even thought it was blowing a gale at the top, it was totally silent. I mean totally. Just a faint sound of tinitis. I really thought i sholud be hearing air turbulance as it want over the rocks. So you could sit back, in the total carm, and watch clouds pass what lookd 10m up at speeds that just didnt look real. I could have sat there a long time, watching the weather wizz about.
I will have to go again, maybe nextime when its a bit nicer. Just being away form things was nice. I've not had a holiday for too long!
