I just learned today who is going to do the artwork for the 2011 Collaborative Summer Reading Program. While the Children's and Adult artists look pretty cool themselves, what really has me excited is that
Svetlana Chmakova is doing the artwork for the the Teen SRP!!!!!!
(for those of you not in the know, she wrote/illustrated
Dramacon - among other things - which happens to be one of my favorite manga ever)
I am so over the moon happy about this!!!!!!! I mean, this is awesome news anyway, but especially so because the teen SRP artwork (and slogans, etc) pretty much universally sucks. But next year we are getting the Dramacon creator/writer/illustrator! If next year's artwork isn't cool, I just give up.
(oh, and hey, look, an artist teens will recognize - ok, sorta, the books were more popular a few years ago but still - and whose work is part of a popular trend in ya books!!!!!!!!! what a concept!)
FYI, for those of you that are all "meh" when you look at that cover,
please know that this is what we have had
in the past for the
teen SRP artwork.
(to be fair, some of the extra artwork for this years SRP is actually pretty cool - all oceans and orcas and pseudo-celtic knotwork - but the main poster is very WTF? *crosses finger that Chmakova will break that bad tradition*)
