Last weekend Little Rock held the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure. I'm sure you all know what it is but it is very big in Arkansas. Arkansas' Race for The Cure is one of the 5 largest in the US. Anyway, there were over 40,000 people that walked in the race.
Arvest gets very involved in things like that so we had over 200 people signed up to participate. However; I wanted to run. I was the only one from the bank running. All I do is run on the treadmill so I knew it would be a bit different outside and I have never ran in a race before. I felt like there was a lot of pressure on me since everyone knew I was running and I was the only one from the bank running.
The top 300 finishers of the race received medals and I made that my personal goal. I knew I could do it and had been training for a while. I figured that probably 95% of the people in the race are just walking so that still leaves 2,000 people that were running.
Well, I finished the race in 132nd place and received my medal! My time was 24 minutes and 35 seconds which was 4 minutes faster than what I ran on the treadmill. It was a great accomplishment and I am so proud of myself.
I decided that I am going to run the LR marathon in March which is 26.2 miles. I don't plan on running the whole thing but I am going to set a time for myself that I would like to make it in. I love having goals and achieving those goals. I have started training for the marathon already and I'm getting real excited about it. Wish me luck!
