Once, there was a great philosophical work which spoke of “slowly learning that life is okay,” and the fact that “it’s no better to be safe than sorry.” The trio, composed of lead vocalist Morten Harket, guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen, placed these ground-breaking ideas in their one-hit wonder, “Take On Me.” These ideas have stuck with me throughout the years, but I’m wondering if they weren’t wrong about the latter. I’d much prefer safety right now, and I’m not so sure I’ll ever learn life is okay. But these revelations, these discoveries of life, they make you cry out, oh, I get it now, and then you realize they knew what they were doing all along.

Another great philosophical work relates the following: “My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb, and all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them.” How idealistic, group known as Gnarls Barkley. Does it matter if you go out on a limb, and once out there the limb breaks? Is that still pretty awesome?

What do you do once you fall off the limb? Is it like riding a horse; are you expected to get back on? Is it like getting hit by a baseball - you realize it doesn’t hurt that much, and you stop being afraid of the ball and enjoying the game? Listen. I’ve been hit by a baseball. It hurt. I mean, a lot. And, yeah, I’ve stopped playing baseball, because you know what, screw that. Falling off a limb can’t be much different. See, I think that all you would learn is the ground below is hard. You know? And it’s far. And you’d hit it. And you’d about break every bone in your body. How can you be expected to climb another tree when so many of the bones in your body are broken? You might get a little ways if you used your teeth, but once the blood loss sets in you’d lose consciousness and then it's over.

the above was written today as a part of my Nanowrimo novel.
