Genre: angst
Plot: Ryo is a knight who met a very unusual person on his way
A/N: none this time
Ryo always believed that people should be guided by their sense as far as their heart. Maybe he trusted in other people’s pride too much or read too many stories about brave knights when he was little. The stories he read was about knights following the codex, being invincible in front of dragons or bad guys. He wanted to be like them, to grab a sword one day and find his own princess imprisoned in a high tower. When he turned 20 he became a knight errant, wearing a silver armor, traveling through the fantastic places and lands.
Once on his way Ryo saw a mirror. When he came closer, the mirror turned out to be a very long wall, made of millions of mirrors. The wall was so long that Ryo couldn’t see its end on the horizon. Also, the person he saw as a reflection wasn’t him. His eyes were different, his skin was more light and his hair was brighter. Though, the knight started to walk straight along the mirror. The further he went the more he realized that the person in a mirror, even different in appearance, is so similar to Ryo. Not only he had the same gestures but thoughts (since the reflection could speak for himself) and even dreams.
The knight began to love his mirror reflection. He was scared if it disappeared in the darkness of a night or was lost in a dense fog. Just imagine Ryo’s happiness when friendly eyes emerges from the light of a candle, diffusing the dark night. The mirror became his journey buddy. When he had to veer off a course and go far away from the mirror wall, knight always had a small mirror with him to keep his reflection near by and look into the mirror’s surface when he felt scared or needed an advice.
Knight started to take care of a mirror. He was bringing him colorful scarves and hanging them up the surface. He showed him little birds and view from a high hill. The reflection teach Ryo poetry and dance. Knight protected the mirror from damages the best he could. He was also cleaning the mirror regularly with a small silk cloth and gently polishing the surface. He truly loved his companion.
“Why are you so quiet today?”, asked the reflection one day.
“Because I thought that if I love you I cannot be a knight anymore.”
“Why is that?”
“As a knight I cannot do more than you wish me to do.”, he said touching the mirror’s surface. The reflection was very obedient and, as a mirror reflection does, he did the same gesture as a knight, “I can be so close to you but not closer. I can feel only as much warm I give you and you can feel only as much love that you give me.”, saying that knight turned around and went far away.
Ryo kept travelling. On his new way he saw many astonishing things and met so beautiful people that he almost forgot about the mirror wall. But one day he felt a warm touch on his chest under the armor. In his pouch he found a small mirror in a golden frame. The mirror started burning his hand so he dropped it on a ground. The surface broke up into hundred pieces, each of them getting more and more hot. Finally they all burnt into a sand. The knight kneeled down by the handful of sand and turned into tears.
“Why I had to leave you?”, he kept asking himself “Why of every little things of you which I loved there is only a little bit of a sand left?”
Knight’s tears kept falling down for hours. There were so much of them that they mixed up with sand creating a mud. Suddenly the puddle of mud started becoming larger and larger. It got so large that it took the knight and his silver armor into the depth.
As the time went by, the swallow became an usual ground, dried out by the summer sun and moistened by autumn rain. Although, this ground still remember the story of knight and his mirror lover. Deep under its upside, there are two warm hearts beating and both of them are so similar to each other like two mirror reflections.
