Lol I'm trying to write anything since two days~. Rly, it's just everytime i start i can't finish because there are more important things to do lol.
Ok, firstly total random, just because I wanted to pimp this artist here lol
Saa.. I think there are just too many things I would like to write about and that's why I can't decide o3o. What's more lately i just dream about burying myself under the duvet in my bed, with my cat and don't go out XD.
Ok, firstly, I remember someone's request for writing about japanese fashion for Autumn 2010. I have even prepared few things i want to show u, guys, but i really haven't time yet to gather it up. Besides, lol, Japanese catalogues stole my attention lol XD Rly, ask Shahi (reading furniture catalogue at 4a.m. was fun lol). As for now, I can only say: if u have any time see latest Rilakkuma catalogue (u can dl it here). I am still shocked that they have even they own tea series O_O! It's also a good occasion to got some information about this funny bear, if this character ever made u think "WTH" (like me).
Btw mags, have u seen latest Kanjani8 photosession in october issue of [idon'trememberwhat]? HERE I still can't stop drolling over it lol.
Oh right, September started so Jenny became a part-time housewife lol. U know, washing, cleaning, cooking (for free). Anyway, that's why i needed to dig out my old collection with various recipes. I have even translated most of them to english for my friend , entitling it "The Great Cooking Book in Case of Meeting Ryo Wanting Your Food" LOL XD And this is the thing which made me think lately: maybe I could publish them somewhere? Like here or on another blog. Those aren't complicated things since I am poor student lol, and I use simple ingradients... besides everyone who saw my last year kitchen would agree that it wasn't a place for any eccentricies lol. So... i really don't know, what to do with this?
Ok, but beside (i really use this word too much lol) houseworks i still have my main "job" as a fansubber. I really wanted to write sth about this fandome, which seriously pissed me off lately, but I can't. It's just better to say nth.
Well, being a translator is a really, really hard work. It eats ur time, don't give u money or fans. And it's not about giving people subs to popular series, so every one's gonna like u. I don't know t for sure, but I have a feeling that more and more new fansubbers think this way? That's why Polish Dramawiki admins decided about a project telling people about work of fansubbers. And I am really serious about this, that's why I haven't presented anything yet, because I want this thing to be done in the best way it's possible.
One more thing about translations: lately I read great article at transubstantiation.wordpress.com. If u translate songs or any lyrical text u should read it here. In the article author claims that:
"How important is the way the text looks? By this we are not referring to the structure, grammar or coherence of a text but rather the font style, font size, page layout, quality of paper and so on. For most translators this is a secondary issue."
Well it made me think how I can use it in my fansubbing work. Well, in one hand its obvious, that by translating a song or a lyrical text u should find an original text, to see it's construction and "look" (like verses order etc). When its about songs i think u should also try to "catch" the melody of text from the song itself - listen to it several times, because even simple intervals can have a meaning sometimes.
But back to fansubbing: can we use visual interpretation in subbing jdramas or movies? Well, we can! When it comes to movies, especially ones which are very detiled with artistic bg its really usefull to interprate not only the story or dialogues, but also a scenery or atmosphere. The same comes to PVs or MVs.
So u could ask, "Ok, but what with just subs?". Well, here visual interpretation comes to work of timers and typesetters. It's not sth new that translated sentences should fit well to the original sentence by it's duration, and of course by meaning. Quite complicated sentences in one lg can be said in a very simplified way in ur direct language. I think we shouldn't avoid it, and minimize a little single lines, to give people as much meaning as we can but in a way they won't get tired just by reading. All in all, plot itself can be tiring for them eheh XD.
So what is the job of typesetters then? Of course it's providing people subs which are clear and just pleasant to read but they also can play with visual interpretation. It's like the thing I saw in J-TV subs for Pride dorama. Take a look at this:
I have just realised that font colour matches colours of Blue Scorpions team uniforms LOL I know this drama by heart but i have just saw it pff.
To sum up, I think if it comes to subs not only a translator is responsible for dialogue's reception but also whole team working by subbing of the episode. And I think sometimes we can take a closer look at our work not only thinking if it's readable for the viewers but also if it's nice and enjoyable for them to watch our fansubs.
