They are nowhere in her thoughts as she dives beneath the waves

So, early morning kudos to lunar_endeavour for poetry. April is my favourite month to read my friends list because of this lady :D

I'm on an upswing in mood again. Or maybe I've just been on a constant one these past months, between 'good' and 'REALLY GOOD', which is not entirely a bad thing. Also, spring is coming. The trees that are blooming aren't ones I'm allergic to,presently, and it's been warm and pretty. I want to go to Seattle my next day off and have a cappuchino in the sun in the middle of the afternoon. What are folks doing next Thursday? Have I just jinxed it to rain that day?

I think i'm going to have to can Convergence 13 in may, unless I can round up someone who is willing to let me share vehicle and hotel space and therefore costs. I don't think it'd be unreasonable to go by myself, but that's not the con experience I like to have, either. Since I was only really interested in going to parade around in fantastic neo-Victorian getup (which I need no excuse to do) and see Abney Park, it's not a huge loss, right? I mean, Abney Park are local, right?

Murr. We'll see.

If I don't make it to Portland that weekend, the shop is closed, so I might go on a less costly vacation. Since I also have grand ambitions of going to Kumori Con in August, Georgia sometime before the weather goes tits-up and AmberCon Northwest in November. That's a lot of $$$$$.

We got invited to do a booth at Kumori Con, since they loved us at SakuraCon so much. I've flat out said I am unwilling to staff it. Someone else at work has expressed the interst in doing it 'with my guidance'. The cynic in me hears that as 'I would like you to do the hard work for me'. I could be wrong, but that still doesn't mean I want to think about it - hauling a few thousand dollars worth of product to Vancouver and back - right at that weekend we are launching for the Halloween season.

Working cons looks like a potentially profitable venture, though. I have aspirations to do RustyCon next January. Anyone else out there know of any local conventions that could benefit from a costume company bringing some nice retail items - wigs, theatrical makeup, etc?

Have started plotting out what kind of cosplay I'd like to do for KumoriCon as well so I have plenty of time to sew So..I'm not finishing a costume by hand in the hotel the night before I'm going to wear it. So here's some geekery.

Haji is pretty much a given - the trim on his coat needs to be redone, zipper resewn and he needs a collar that isn't just two tabs sewn on at the last minute. Good thing I have a base shape that I love and am happy with - the details just got rushed and sloppy at the last minute. Thankfully, I found my satin Funhouse Frock Coat (which is now the ghetto Victorian Haji-in-the-Zoo coat) and I think the collar on that might make a good pattern. Also, I need to do some woodworking with ravengirl420, restring the Cellobeast, and practice. HEE.

Other than that, we've been kicking around the idea of doing some Magic Knight Rayearth action. Magical Girl is not really my thing on my best day, but I'm a sucker for carrying a prop. Preferably a GIANT OVERSIZED ONE. I also said I might look at Juuni Kokki for Betsy. I'm a good sport.:D

Since the Kabuki-styled wig from Lacey passed through my hands when we ordered it for Sakura-Con, I've had big dreams of turning it into San's headdress from Princess Mononoke. I'm too tall for San on a good day, but it's so pretty I don't really care. It's a nifty costume with plenty of cool detail to reproduce with polymer clay, too The only thing I'd need to think about would be matching the hair fiber for the shoulder cape-thing. My original Mononoke idea was Lady Eboshi, because I can pull her off better physically, but that's a little further down on the idea board.

I also have designs on Kusanagi's tan military uniform from GitS: SAC, which looks like a nice evening/Sunday thing with the right shoes. That's still too many for one weekend. I'm sure I'll whittle it down and space it out in the intervening time. :D

mania, costume, nothing to see but us nerds, convergence, gawth
