1/3 of a book review: Her Fearful Symmetry

I was gonna try and write a review of Her Fearful Symmetry once I finished it, but it's driving me nuts, and I need to rant.

I'm a third of the way through the book, and NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET. The main characters of the book, a set of twee-as-fuck 21 year old American twins, have only just interacted with another character! They've spent the entire book thus far gallivanting around London, generally being annoying, and avoiding any and all plot, whatsoever!

Which isn't really hard when, instead of a story, you get extended passages about the history of Highgate Cemetery, every possible tourist destination in London, and, now, a two page summary of The Doctor Dances because somebody just noticed that OMG, David Tennant is the Doctor now! I can only presume this is all the result of Niffenegger apparently getting a job at Highgate, and it all comes off like the literary equivalent of coming back from a vacation in London with a fake accent so people totally know you were over there.

I could go on about how annoying the main characters are, and how the writers of Supernatural could really take notes from this about baiting incest slashfic writers, but I think that bevy of material needs to wait for a full review. Assuming that I can finish the book before throwing it against the wall and giving up in disgust.
