Ahh so I'm going to Dallas, Texas on Thursday. Be back Saturday. Why?
“Gathering at the Waters: Embracing Our Spirits, Telling Our Stories,” is the first national conference for Librarians of Color. The organizers include the membership of the five ethnic caucus associations: American Indian Library Association (AILA), Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA), Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA), Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) and REFORMA, National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking. JCLC2006 is dedicated to improving the quality of communication and information-sharing about our issues and communities within the library profession, and especially between the five ethnic caucus organizations and their advocates.
JCLC2006 will include over 100 programs, on topics such as:
Recruitment and Retention, Staff Development (jenn talks here I think), Gender and Identity, Advocacy, Service Delivery, Legacy Recognition, Literature, as well as many other programs and poster sessions, over 100 exhibitors with new and exciting products, and plenty of chances to meet and mingle with colleagues new and old!
Keynote Speakers include:
Opening General Session Speaker Loung Ung, author of the bestselling memoir, First They Killed My Father: a Daughter of Cambodia Remembers.
Keynote Speaker Juan Williams, author of Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965.

Yeah. I still iffy on being asked to a "colored" conference. I feel like I should be putting myself in the back of the bus. We shall not, we shall not progress. The title of the conference is also rather trite. I'm trying to be open but I feel like they're calling us waterbuffalo OR they're emphasizing some sort of longing for seperate water coolers. But yeah that's my week. I'll be seeing you at the Colored sink, folks.
