I'm so excited for you!!!!!! I'm jealous too... of Mark Sheppard being there. I've never seen him at a con.
I'd stopped con-going before Rob B and Louden Swain became regulars so I've never seen them. By all accounts their Sat. night concerts are well worth going to. I'm enjoying Rob & Richard's start-up campaign for their web-series. They seem hilarious together (I even donated a measly $20 bucks to it LOL). Richard on stage is a riot. Matt Cohen's smile lights up the room :)
Comfortable shoes for standing in line-ups. Spend the money on the photo ops but only to have that moment with them; don't expect the photographer to snap the perfect shot of both (or all of you, depending on which one you pay for). Be prepared for lots of screaming (shrieking) women, of which you might discover you are one of them ;) Even if you're not into autographs, if you get them with your package, they're worth those long lines. You get that moment (even more so than when you do the photo ops) where you get direct eye-contact (most of the time) and even if all you say is something like "I love the show", they'll respond to *you* and it's pretty thrilling, especially the first time.
Unless you have the most awesome seats I wouldn't expend too much effort on taking photos of the panels. Just sit back and enjoy them. Someone from the front row will undoubtedly upload great photos on line anyway.
Even though I've been to a few, I'm extra envious because Jensen has loosened up so much more since becoming a dad. He might even sing for you there ::swoon::
Admittedly it's been 3 or 4 years since I've seen Jensen at a con so fatherhood may have impacted this additional observation but, I'll pass it on anyway... Be forewarned that he really is better looking in person than on TV so try not to be too openly gobsmacked when he first makes eye-contact LOL.
Don't get me wrong, Jared is gorgeous in person but, in my experience he looked exactly as I expected (except shockingly tall on first meeting). In many ways, he looked just like Sam (except often with a hat on). Jensen sparkled in a way that not even the best cameras could capture. Guh! Plus he seemed slimmer/smaller than Dean but not in a fragile way at all (OMG those shoulders and his back!), just different.
I'm so thrilled for you! You will have to share your feelings/experiences when it's over.
Thanks for the great tips and info - shoes are very important! I'd forgotten the whole standing-in-line thing....Sadly, all the photo ops and autograph sessions were sold out by the time I got my ticket. Would you believe it took an ad during an ep a couple of weeks ago to clue me into the fact they were even coming here?! I don't follow the con news (they're always somewhere else!), and so didn't get on the ball until just two weeks ago. Gold tickets were sold out (couldn't afford one anyway), silver was still too high for my budget (even though I probably should've sprung for it, because who knows if they'll be back again), so I got the "Copper" option, with a reserved seat for all three days. It's far back, but I'll be in the same room.
So, alas, no eye-to-eye contact with Jensen. I have heard that he is actually better-looking in person, which simply blows my mind, because how does that seem possible?!
Mostly I'm looking forward to the silliness and hijinks, and seeing them all in one room. :) I hope I'll be able to hear over the screaming women! I find it hard enough to hear on the youtube vids that people post!
Other than that fun news, life around here goes on. I wish I could quit my job but darn it, I still need a paycheck! And I'm too old too look for a new one....Spud the cat is going to be 20 years old this summer! A little thinner, a little bonier, but still going strong.
Looking forward to taking some time off this summer, as the work schedule allows - I've got so much vacation time saved up, it's ridiculous!
I continue to not write fic....Been very lazy. Bad Jen. :( My new fandom obsession is The Musketeers, which wrapped up series 2 on BBC America a few weeks back. GUH. Pretty boys in leather with swords.
Good for Spud; glad to hear that. We're down to 2 dogs now, plus my Dad's Sheltie, so 3 technically. Dad's still with us though the Alzheimer's continues to progress and take its toll. He's living in a nursing home now.
You'll enjoy yourself at the con I'm sure as is but, you might want to keep an eye on this site for potential re-sales of tickets/autographs/etc. I saw some photo ops for MN just glimpsing now:
Since I stopped attending the cons, I don't keep track of where and when; had no idea there was going to be one in your neck of the woods either. I'm glad the boys (the men!) are still invested in the fans (and making extra bucks LOL).
I'm still writing fic though the words aren't flowing as well as I'd wish. I think I'd told you I was writing fic (actually founded the category over at ff.net) for the early 80s one season Seven Brides for Seven Brothers series? Just posted chapter 16 of a WIP and crossed the 100,000 word threshold with that posting. The words are slowing down though and I fear I'll run out of them before I actually finish the story. This fic may have tapped my well of ideas though... no more plot bunnies burning holes in my brain.
You know, I watched the first ep of the Musketeers but it didn't draw me in. I've got all of season 1 downloaded but have held off watching more of it. In part because I wasn't sucked in during that first ep but also out of fear of being sucked in and losing even more momentum with my current story if I fall for Aramis and his cohorts "instead" LOL. If I ever finish this 7B WIP, I may try the lovely Frenchmen again ;)
Great to hear from you. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Spud is currently napping on the comfy chair here in my office. It especially cracks me up when she starts snoring... :)
Three dogs sounds like enough to handle! Though I know you've had more in the past around the house. Sorry to hear about your dad. That is rough, on everyone.
Thanks for the link to the con site - I shall continue to keep tabs!
Because I'm lazy, please refresh my memory: is 7 Brides the show that Richard Dean Anderson was in before MacGyver?? I seem to recall a pic of him looking ridiculously young in that....But good for you for writing a massive fic! Topping the 100K mark is pretty impressive. And come on, you've written that much, of course you can finish it!
A friend of mine had the same reaction as you to Musketeers. I loaned her the DVDs and she watched the first one, asked me which other ep she should watch, and when I told her my favorite, she still didn't get hooked. I got sucked in immediately! That scene with drunk Athos in the beginning did it for me, with him dunking his head in the bucket of water and then pulling on his leather doublet. GUH. I read the book when I was 12, it's always been a favorite, and I've always loved Athos best, so Tom Burke just did it for me. :)
There are definite annoyances about the series, as in sometimes the plots don't hang together, but I can be quite forgiving due to the charisma and chemistry of the actors. Series 2 started off a little slow, but ended brilliantly. I am very much looking forward to series 3! But I don't blame you for not wanting to get distracted if you're in the middle of something.
Well, it's a holiday here today, and it's been two days of gloom and doom. Thought I saw some sun a few moments ago, but it was short-lived. Back to clouds. I am being fairly lazy! It feels like another Sunday. :)
Yup, Seven Brides starred RDA... I think it was one of the first thing she did after leaving General Hospital. It ran from fall of '82 to spring of '83 and wasn't renewed. I'd started watching it in high-school because of RDA (I'd been in love with him as Jeff Webber on GH) and also excited because Peter Horton was on it too and I'd found him appealing in some guest roles I'd seen him in, most notably a memorable role in White Shadow. Little did I know that I'd fall lock, stock and barrel for Roger Wilson as my favorite LOL. Drake Hogestyn was on it too in his first role. When I ended up finding some crap quality DVDs of the show (VHS copied onto DVDs) a few years back, I was pleasantly surprised that my fondness for the show wasn't entirely rose-coloured and I fell in love all over again, hence me writing 9 fics now for the show, including the current WIP.
Thanks for the kudos regarding writing 100K words. Scary thing is, this is my second of those in this fandom. My first epic is about 120K (ironically it's basically an episode tag of an immense nature LOL). I'm amazed I had another one in me! I remember when Katt and I co-wrote our Lancer fic that was up over 55K and thinking it was "huge". And, you're right, with so many words written, I will finish it... it's just not flowing though and I have a tougher time writing these days unless I have solitude/no distractions which is a hard-to-come-by commodity. I will persevere though.
I'm glad s2 of the Musketeers finished well. I'd heard from some other lj friends that they were disappointed in the early part of s2 but then never really heard more from them. Food to hear it found itself again. I'm sure I'll watch those s1 eps one of these days, especially if my muse does run dry with Seven Brides stories once this one is done.
We had our May holiday the weekend before yours. Traditionally the weather is dismal but it was gorgeous for once. This week it's already too hot and humid for my liking though. I'm rarely satisfied though. There are about 3 weeks of spring I enjoy and about a month of fall and the rest of the time, I'm either too hot or miserable over the winter driving.
Have a good night!
ETA: That would be RDA, Peter Horton and Roger Wilson in my icon. I couldn't resist ;) /i>

Aside from this exciting news, how are things?
