Firey office of DOOM!

Today, we had a fire at work.

Not a lovely campfire with roasted hotdogs and S'mores. No, the washer-dryer combo unit caught on fire.

Oddly enough, the maintenance guy was in the office 6 days ago to clean all the lint out of the dryer portion of the machine. Apparently he missed the volleyball sized Tribble sitting on the motor.

....

Also, Xander loves pickles.

He's had quite the obsession with a toy that fastens on his high chair that is called "Crinkly Dragonfly" but really looks like a flying pickle on a stick.
As seen, here...

So, I can see where the pickle-love is coming from.

Well, at daycare yesterday, he had his first dill pickle spear. He was quite enthusiastic. Enough so that one of the other children gave him a whole bowl full of pickle spears, which he proceeded to devour with gusto.

He also waved "bye-bye" for the first time on Tuesday. He also has started clapping along with "If you're happy and you know it..." without prompting. I was driving along with the song playing and I heard a little *clap clap* from the back seat, echoing the claps in the recording. I turned around just in time to see him do it. After the clapping verse comes the stomping verse, and he always looks so sad because he'll start to clap, then realize ther eis no clapping sound, and so he'll just sit there, hands up in the air, mid-clap, waiting for the chance to clap again.

It seems like every day he does something new.
I can no longer video tape him, because he wants to play with the camcorder. He hears the *ping* of it turning on and immediately stops what he's doing and races towards me. If I try to hide it behind me, he just ducks around the other side of me to grab at it.

He has figured out what buttons on the remote do cool things, so now the remote is not a good toy for him anymore. His favorite thing to do is mute the volume, turn the volume control way up and then un-mute it. That, and turning off the DVD player while you're watching a movie.

...and yet, I still can't get him to grasp the concept of "Pattycake," which is apparently a major milestone that the pediatrician has not yet crossed off her list.
