So even though I've essentially stopped posting around here, I am still around and reading. Just don't have much to say these days. I still do keep up with you guys though, I've just gone into extreme lurker mode
( Read more... )
Life on Mars is the best thing ever. Single best thing I've ever seen on TV. Have seen only the first two Ashes but am having a great time with that as well. Can't wait to get the gang together to keep watching! Am so ridiculously in love with Phil Glenister it's not even funny..
If you're looking for Keeley, give Our Mutual Friend a try. It's also got plenty of other cool people in it, and is the adaptation that actually made me WANT to read Dickens, which is saying something.
Be sure to see State of Play, if you haven't already (much easier now that it's on R1 disc)--John Simm, Phil, David Morrissey, and many others, and one of the most incredible series I've ever seen.
And Phil's also in two of the Hornblower movies, which are quite good. :) (This is all the stuff I saw pre-LoM--oh, and Calendar Girls, which you've probably already seen but is fun Phil, too!)
State of Play is incredible. (It's also a really good way to make a 7-hour plane flight pass quickly!) The first episode didn't do a whole lot for me, but you're not far into the second before the thing is off and running, so if ep 1 leaves you a bit meh, press on.
I think I saw part of that Spooks ep--I kept it on because I was curious since ASH was in it, and then there was the scene with the deep fryer, which is why I've never watched any more. Just...a mental image I really, really did not need.
David Morrissey is also in Our Mutual Friend, as Paul McGann's rival for Keeley's affections. Six hours of serious drama, that one. You'll also recognize David Bradley (Mr Filch)--and he and DM are also in Blackpool, which is definitely worth a look if you've not seen it (there are scenes in OMF that I've dubbed Blackpool: The Dickens Years).
DM's Ripley Holden is the character I'd so love to pit against Gene Hunt. They're both such larger than life characters. Of course, if Gene had been investigating the murder in Blackpool, he'd have beat the hell out of Ripley and had a confession by sundown...and the show would have been over in an hour ;)
Oh you hooked me on Blackpool a few years back, if I remember correctly. Which is probably the only place I know Morrisey from. Though once I get through the other millions of things to watch on my list I will definitely have to check out OMF.
Ah, good--I can never keep track of the extent of my crackdealing. ;) Did you see the new Sense and Sensibility with him as Colonel Brandon? If so, what did you think?
I haven't seen the new Sense and Sensibility. (By new do you mean the one with Emma Thompson or is there an even newer version?) Which is a shame really because my love for Austen knows no bounds. I guess I'll just have to add it to the ever growing list!
There's a newer one (within the last two years, I think) that was a TV production, I think for the BBC. PBS aired it a month or so ago as part of their Complete Jane Austen, so you should be able to find it pretty easily. I liked some things about it, didn't like others, but the main reason I was curious enough to watch it was because of DM as Brandon.

I am, how you say? GONE.

Sometime in the next few days I need to find the time to watch Byron. I'm told he's fantastic in it. Did you watch Cranford on PBS?

Working on Spooks right now for the Keeley factor, but once that's done, will go back for all things Philip.
I've also TiVo wishlisted them both.
