york = sheridan, sheridan doesn't have its own design program (i wish!)
OCAD and york put a lot of emphasis on fine art, so if you don't draw or paint get crackin' on it. and yeah, OCAD is snobby. they were snobby at the uni fair, they were snobby at interviews, they were snobby at this workshop i did...
the big thing is START A SKETCHBOOK! if you don't have one. and george brown makes you drop off your portfolio--there's no interview. so take that in to consideration. other places want to see your work in the flesh, but you may want to make a book or something for GB
i brought mostly design pieces to the OCAD interview and got denied, and fine arts pieces to humber, thinking "oh i have to bring mostly fine arts stuff to interviews"... luckily the woman at humber let me email her more design work. with GB it's hard to tell, because there's no interview. i didn't submit my portfolio there because i went there and couldn't see myself spending a lot of time in that dungegon, and i'd already gotten in to humber so i was like fuck it. :P i didn't finish my york application so i dunno about them.
they make everyone do an english proficiency test, but if you have a good grasp on grammar then it's no big deal. they just want to make sure you can communicate and have attention to detail. and they ask questions like "why this school" "why do you want to study design" "what's your inspiration" "how'd you get started" "what are your favourite media" "what are your favourite classes" "did you take yearbook or anything" etc... just don't babble or try to be too deep
