So within the last 24 hours, I have had three people go out of there way to be kind to me or help me out. The first one was yesterday afternoon when I mentioned offhandedly to
wintersweetthat I would dearly love to find the recipe to a Russian peasant "Kokurka" or potato cheesecake. Lo and behold,
marusja not only found a recipe, but translated it from Russian! Why? Because she wanted to put her Russian to use. So a first big thanks to
marusja! The second was today while I was in the cafe by myself. I should never be by myself on a Saturday, but as my coworkers suck and won't work on Saturdays, I have to cover a lunch in the cafe. I put on my apron, wash my hands, ring up the first customer, start working on their drinks, and I turn around and I have ten people in line. So, I call for backup to the cafe, just someone to ring up customers, I can make drinks pretty quick. I then say to the line of folks that I am real sorry for the wait, I have called someone to come over and help, they should be here is just a minute. Someone in the line asked if they wanted them to help me out. I just laughed. I couldn't help it, it just struck me as funny for some reason. So my backup arrived just a few seconds later, and we got the line in and out in no time. The last guy in line was really nice, and said that he used to work at Seattle's Best awhile ago, and understood how frustrating it can be without anyone else there. He also said that he noticed no one else tipped, and dropped a $20 bill in my tip jar. I was shocked to say the least. So my second big thank you goes out to Andrew! Because if it wasn't for Andrew I wouldn't have had any money until tonight. My third awesome person was just a few minutes ago. When I was on my lunch today, I couldn't find my wallet. Thankfully I had a gift card for Borders, so I bought lunch at work. I figured that my wallet was still at home, that it had just fallen out of my bag. It fell out of my bag alright, but it fell out at the buffet that I was at last night. Clint and I were talking and he said about an hour before that maybe some kindhearted honest person found it. I scoffed. This really nice man and his family were at the table that my roommates and I were at, and his son had dropped his Lego toy right on top of my wallet. He then read the chicken scratch that was on the back of my ID, and found my apartment to return my wallet. So my third big thanks is to the nice man and his son who found my wallet and returned it to me. My faith in the human race has been restored, for the moment.
