Stephenie Meyer, 2005.

Excellent book. Definitely pick this up when it is released (in October) if you read YA fiction, especially if you like romantic stories and the supernatural. Very moody, nicely written, great characters. The following description is only mildly spoilerish, most of it is alluded to on the back cover.

Isabella Swann moves to a small town in the Pacific Northwest from her beloved Phoenix. In Forks, Bella quickly and inexplicably falls in love with Edward Cullen, a classmate who alternately ignores her, saves her repeatedly from danger, seems angry with her and -- occasionally -- seems to find her attractive as well. By the time that Bella learns Edward's secret (he and his 'family' are all vampires who refuse to feed on humans) she is too far gone to care much about the danger that Edward poses.

The first half to two-thirds of the book describes the progress of Bella and Edward's relationship. There is a lot of tension and conflict in that part alone, as they deal with their families, classmates and his particular appetite for her blood. The plot really gets kicking, though, when a group of travelling vampires comes to Forks and one of the members fixes on Bella as his prey. The remainder of the story chronicles the efforts of Isabella and the Cullens to save her life, conquer their foe, and learn how to live together.
