Good Times.

The week was filled with fun lessons of past tense and the imperfect tenses of Italian. Oh joy. First use of several charcoal pencils in a drawing… the model was very fidgety. I’m sure many of the boys in the class enjoyed having this particular model this week. I think I’m better at drawing female figures, just because the anatomy makes more sense to me. I booked my accommodations for England in West Kensington and Oxford. Only three more weeks… I’m really excited!! That’s a really crazy thing to think about. That also means the two art projects, my portfolio, and the Italian final will be before then. What a big hurtle. Argh. I guess it could be thought to be like a reward of the things I had to do before the “vacation”.

So Greg came back to Florence Friday afternoon… I waited for him, by drawing my self-portrait for the figure drawing class homework. . I drew myself too fat, according to my roommates. Lol. After we dropped off his rental at the airport, we settled on un ristorante vicino al Duomo. The night started out a bit bizarre, with weird communication about the vino. We eventually got a decent one and we had a Florentine bistecca, risotto, and peas. I knew Greg was family, when he took out his camera to take pictures of the food. It’s such a Wong thing to do.

I think it was the first time where I could openly talk about everything… I feel like the families needed to keep to themselves and only report the significant facts to the rest. It has always been that way, at least in my position. I feel like he’s my distant older brother that takes pride in caring for his younger sisters.

After dinner, we made our way to Perché No? for some gelato and both of us witnessed our first illegal handbag deal bust. It was funny. We got gelato and we hung around the Duomo for a while. I always like that place at night, as long as I’m with friends, the men that hang out there are a bit sketch. We return to the apartment and get some well-deserved sleep.

To sum of a long walking tour that I lead, we went to the Palazzo and Pointe Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, leather stores, a really good sandwich shop is tucked away from tourists, Palazzo Michelangelo (which has the best view of the Duomo and it’s surroundings), San Miniato, the street market of San Lorenzo, Via Roma several times with its designer stores, and of course, the main hub which would be the Duomo. We had gelato before dinner and then settled on a ristorante across the American Express. I was always interested in going there, as I pass by it on my way to my apartment every weekend. The food was really good: bruschetta, pasta with meat sauce, salmon and grape fruit salad, and roast duck. It rained a bit, but it didn’t disrupt anything, despite sitting outside.

We were in need for more gelato, so we went to Vivoli, which was literally, 3 blocks away from my apartment. It is lethal. We spent 3 hours there just talking about everything: about family, life, and the future. We both had our share of college stories. I’ve always respected Greg and to understand each other in this trip; it makes our family stronger. I wish I could spend more time with other cousins and relatives, one and one talking to them.

It’s sad to know that I’ll only see family till maybe Judy or mom comes to visit in the spring, but I’m so grateful that someone has gone out of their way to see me in such a new environment.
