Sorry to those who have read this previously:
I’ve been honored to have been involved with a wonderful organization for the past several months, The Wellness Community of Delaware. I got involved with this organization when I decided to come here to do my first year internship as a part of my graduate social work program at West Chester University. Since the end of August, I have been privileged to meet with and work with wonderful, positive, and inspirational people. Delaware has an estimated 18,000 people seeking continuing health care for cancer, with 4,000 people estimated to be diagnosed with cancer this year alone. The Wellness Community of Delaware is the only program in Delaware dedicated to helping people with cancer deal with the emotional side of this devastating illness. The Wellness Community provides support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through weekly support groups for people in active treatment and their immediate caregivers people with cancer are able get help to fight the isolation, loss of hope, and loss of control that often accompanies a diagnosis of cancer. All of these groups are run by professionally licensed psychotherapists. Other programs that are offered are mind-body classes, such as yoga and tai chi; a poetry group; educational programs about cancers and the treatment of cancer; nutritional programs; programs for children; and monthly networking groups. All of these programs are offered to people with cancer free of charge. The Wellness Community serves people in all three counties in Delaware reaching out to people of all ages and backgrounds.
On May 17th I am running a half-marathon on behalf of The Wellness Community of Delaware. The race will take place in downtown Wilmington near the Riverfront as a part of the Delaware Marathon. My fundraising goal is $300. I understand that times are hard financially for us all, but I hope that you can give even a small amount to help out this valuable organization. If I can get just 30 people to donate $10 I will have met my goal.
Thank you for your time and support.
