Sigh. After all the issues with the cable I thought we had everything sorted out. The day we got the satellite and Comcast internet installed we went and bought a modem/router. I was going to get a cheaper, older combo one to try and save money but they didn't have any so my husband said to just get the newest one for $150. It works great and all and then today my husband decided to cancel our cell phones since we can't get reliable coverage in the area. So he tried to call me on the VIOP phone we have through nettalk. But couldn't get through.
I also can't call out so I'm researching only to find out nettalk isn't compatible with the modem/router we bought unless you disconnect their internal router and plug a separate, supported one in. FUCKING GREAT! So we just wasted $150. We don't have an extra router. If I had known that in the first place we would have spent the $150 on a separate modem and router but I never even thought about it. When my dad sent us the nettalk think I just plugged it into the modem/router (a combo one) that Verizon provided and it worked right from the start without any issues.
I don't even freaking know if we still have the receipt for the modem. I think my husband put it in the car. Now I have to figure out which modem and router we can get that works for Comcast and the phone and that we can afford. I'm thinking right now we'll have to return the one we have, reconnect the modem Comcast gave us and buy just a router for now.
But until then I am without any phone. If we need to call 911 we'll have to go to a neighbor's house. I'll only be able to contact my husband through facebook when he's at work which he can only check when he has time.
I'm so tired of this crap. Why can't anything be easy?
[ETA] So I think I know which router I'm going to get now. I'm so tired of all this nonsense. It's taking away from me doing important stuff. Like the whole time I spent (several hours) trying to figure out why we couldn't use our phone the kids were trashing the house. The baby knocked all the movies off the shelves, the older kids tossed stuff everywhere and made a mess in the kitchen and now I have a headache. Hell, I'm not even sure my oldest came home. Her friend wanted her to spend the night and left right around the time my husband got home (like 8-9pm). I was so distracted I'm not sure if she came home or spent the night at the friend's house. Oy.
Then hubby comes home with a shiny new toy to play with. He got some deal at the Verizon store so I now have a Blackberry phone. He has some fancy android phone that is huge but cool. I've got a couple days to decide if I want to keep the Blackberry (a Curve) or get one like he has. There's nothing particularly wrong with the Blackberry. I've found it pretty easy to use and it connects to the 3G pretty easily (haven't even tried to set up the wi-fi since I got such a good connection with the 3G). None of the Verizon apps seem to be working but I got on the Blackberry app site.
I think the biggest drawback is it's not an android and almost everything has an android app now.
omg! wtf!,
