Script: Back Porch

Aug 24, 2012 23:22

Something else new from me thanks to writerverse.  It's my first attempt at writing a screenplay.  I'm sure the scene itself sucks but I enjoyed the format.  I might try doing more screenplays just to focus on dialogue and stuff.  Oh, I did use a program for the formatting which made things easier.  I have a trial version of Scrivner for PC and still had 23 days left on it so I used that.  It took me a few minutes to figure out how to use it and then I was just flying.

It's the night of the prom and things did not end well for Sarah. Now Tucker wants to try and make things up to her.

FADE IN:

EXT. SARAH'S BACK PORCH - NIGHT

SARAH is sitting on the steps to her back porch. Behind her the house is eerily dark and silent. Crickets CHIRP and frogs CROAK in the distance. A breeze flutters her hair and she shivers. She pulls her thin sweater tighter around her. TUCKER appears from the side of the house looking uncomfortable. He has a large bruise forming on his left cheek and his knuckles are torn up. He keeps his distance.

[I'm new at this...]

TUCKER

(clears throat)

Hey.

Sarah says nothing, turning her head away from Tucker. Tucker moves closer to the steps.

TUCKER

Can I talk to you?

SARAH

It's a free country.

TUCKER

(sighs)

Logan...

SARAH

(irritated)

What do you want? Come here to make me feel even worse than I do? Did you think of another name to call me?

TUCKER

(takes a step closer)

I didn't call...

SARAH

(interrupts Tucker)

No, but you just stood by while the rest of your idiot friends...

Sarah wraps her arms around her body and looks away. Tucker fidgets a moment before coming to stand next to the porch. He can barely see her in the dark. Sarah is fighting back tears.

SARAH

(takes a deep breath)

Why are you here?

TUCKER

(softly)

I came to apologize.

Sarah snorts. Tucker shifts his weight.

TUCKER

I never meant for any of this to happen.

SARAH

You never do.

TUCKER

(with a sigh)

I'm sorry.

SARAH

Feel better?

TUCKER

(exasperated)

Logan.

(stammering)

I... I... I mean... I just wish...

(takes a deep breath)

There's nothing I can say, is there?

Sarah shakes her head, still not looking at Tucker. Tucker rubs at his face then sits with a sigh next to Sarah.

TUCKER

I really screwed things up, didn't I?

The silence continues between them for some time.

SARAH

(quietly)

Why didn't you ask me to the prom?

Tucker considers his answer for a moment. He glances over at Sarah. She's now staring into the dark yard. The clouds part and let the moonlight through so that Tucker can finally get a good view of her. He swallows hard and takes a deep breath.

TUCKER

I was scared.

SARAH

Of what your friends would say?

TUCKER

(softly)

That you would say no.

SARAH

(looks over at Tucker)

Oh.

Tucker looks up and the two get lost in each other's stares for a moment.

TUCKER

Tell me there's a chance I can fix this.

Sarah brushes her fingers across Tucker's busted knuckles. Her face is scrunched up in thought. Finally, she looks up at him.

SARAH

You were my best friend, Tucker. And then you turned on me. I still don't know what I did...

TUCKER

(interrupting)

I know. And you didn't do anything. It was me.

(takes a deep breath)

I'm an idiot.

SARAH

(snorts)

No kidding.

TUCKER

(laughs)

It's not like it's some big secret.

Tucker pushes a lock of Sarah's hair away from her face, his thumb tracing a line down her jawline. Sarah shivers.

TUCKER

I want to make this better. Tell me how to make it better.

SARAH

What if you can't? Maybe there isn't a way to fix it.

TUCKER

(softly)

I don't believe that. I can't.

SARAH

(whispers)

Why?

TUCKER

Because I need you in my life. I was just too busy being an idiot to realize it. You've always been here for me, Logan... Sarah. Even when I was the biggest jerk to you. You were still there. I can't lose that.

SARAH

You'll find someone else.

TUCKER

(disconcerted)

No.

SARAH

(softly)

Why not?

TUCKER

Because I think I'm in love with you.

SARAH

(her voice cracks)

You think?

TUCKER

(leans in closer)

I know. Please, Sarah. I know I don't deserve it and you have every right to punch me in the face right now but...

(looks her right in the eye)

I know I can be that guy you've always seen in me. It's taken me a long time to figure that out but I want to try.

(looks away with a sigh)

But I need you to be there.

SARAH

Tucker.

Tucker turns to look at Sarah. She catches him off guard, cupping his face in her hands and kissing him softly.

TUCKER

What was that for?

SARAH

I think I'm in love with you.

TUCKER

(pulls back)

Why?

SARAH

Because I still see that guy in you.

Sarah smiles at him. Tucker leans his forehead against hers.

TUCKER

You can do better. Much better.

SARAH

How 'bout you let me decide.

Sarah presses her lips against Tucker's again. Tucker grins into the kiss before his hands slide up to Sarah's face.

FADE OUT.
