My birth process

Jan 21, 2010 06:12

I want to write down the process it took to get Aleck here. I think this is a memory I will never ever forget. None the less I will put it here.

Baby's Name: Aleck Michael Anguish
Date of Birth: 1/15/10
Original Due Date: 1/25/10
Weeks Pregnant: 38w 5d
Weight: 8 lbs 4 oz
Height: 21 in

On Friday the 15th I was having mild contractions all day. I hadn't been sleeping well, so my dr gave me a script for Ambien. I took one and was going to take a nap but was very restless and couldn't sit still.

I decided that I would scrub the bathroom floor grout with a tooth brush (nesting much?!). As I was scrubbing the Ambien began to kick in. It always makes me a little loopy so I didn't think much about it. After about 45 mins, my contractions got stronger and stronger and stronger. The next thing I know I can't stand it anymore. I feel like my insides are being torn out.

DH, my Mom and I rush to the hospital (1/2 a mile away) and I am admitted right away. I am in full blown labor but only 5 cm dialated. anesteseologist (sp?) is called and is there in a jiffy. As he's putting in my cathiter for my epidural my water breaks. I go from 5 cm to 10 in about 30 mins. Then the pushing began.

I pushed and pushed and pushed but this boy wouldn't budge. I tried the regular way, I tried on my hands and knees on a birthing ball, I tried with my feet on the birthing bar, I tried squatting on the bar, but nadda. Finally dr comes in and says his head is turned and that he's stuck in my pelvis.

She then proceeds to yell at me and tell me that I'm not trying hard enough and that I have to concentrate. At that moment my epidural is wearing off. I start to cry and say that I can't push anymore, it's just too painful and that I want a c-section. I had been pushing for over 2 hours. She goes on to ask if I realize what that means, that I want a surgery. I tell her I don't care how it happens, I just want this baby out of me.

Next thing I know I'm in the OR and baby is out! Hooray! 2:51am Aleck Michael Anguish arrived, weighing in at 8lbs 4oz, 21 inches long. I was in labor for 12 hours.

turns out too that there is no way I could have delivered him vaginaly. He was so stuck in my pelvis that his head was a total cone.

We are all doing great, I was in the hospital for only 2 days before taking him home.

Now that we're here, we are settling and getting used to eachother. It is really a miracle to have him here. He is the love of my life and I am such a proud mom. What an amazing process.
