Here's the deal. As most of you know, my daughter Faith was diagnosed with Leukemia at the young age of 3. She went through extensive chemotherapy for 3 years and got sick many times over. She never complained when she lost her hair. Shoot, she never asked questions when she was haunched over the toilet getting sick from the medication. On January 3, 2003 her doctors pronounced her in remission. All of her endurance and strength that her little body gave was completely worth it. It would not have been possible without the latest treatments and research made available (well, that and her one and only single support team: ME!).
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society continues to fight for a cure and Faith is right there beside them. She is an active advocate for their fundraising programs and has even spoken at schools about her battle with Cancer. That is why she is my hero. She took a potentially life-threatening disease and kicked it in the butt while continuing to help others do the same. Just recently, someone else has deemed her a hero.
A friend of mine, Laura, has graciously asked to honor Faith as her hero as she trains for
The Hike for Discovery. She will be training to do an endurance hike down the Grand Canyon. Think about it. Hiking the Grand Canyon! Laura will be going through extensive training and for what? To help find a cure. To help other children and adults like Faith who have the god-awful experience of battling blood-related Cancers. The statistics are phenomenal of those who are affected and even killed by blood-related cancer.
So, why the post you may ask? Simple. I promised Laura to help her with her fundraising efforts. She has an amazing goal to raise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I believe with all of the people on my friends list, there have to be some of you who are willing to donate to such a cause. No donation is ever too small OR too big. If you want to help, please go to
HER DONATION PAGE and make a donation. You can also read about the eye-opening statistics I mentioned earlier about blood cancers. It'd mean the world to me, to her, and most importantly, to Faith if you clicked that link and made a difference. Make this year the year that you decide to give back. After all, you can't take it with you when you go.
Thank you for reading this and I do hope someone reads this and feels compelled. Even if it's just one person, it was all worth it.
