We had a most tragic occurrence! Two of our little finches, Begbie and Butternut, were sent off to the pet store. Butternut was making attempts at murdering Mama finch! Poor Mama just cowered on the bottom of the cage for two days, while Butternut chased her around mercilessly, pecking at her and screeching anytime she made an attempt to sit on a branch or eat. She was trying to take over the dominant female role I guess, and get some lovin' from her Dad. Ick!! Incestuous little birds!!! She would cozy up next to him and stick her butt in the air and make strange chirpy noises, as though she was trying to get him to mate with her. So we called the pet store and had them take her as well as her brother, Begbie. As soon as she was gone from the cage, Mama went back to being jolly and chirpy, and she cuddled up next to Papa and all was well. I felt very sad getting rid of them, though. I just couldn't watch her attack and possibly kill her mother! I've heard some horror stories. It's so upsetting witnessing the dark side of nature!!
