Car-less
Despite my reputed class privilege (presumably social), I have been finding it really hard to make ends meet and pay off my student loans. I lived off credit cards during periods of unemployment (dot-bomb, esp) because my age, education and lack of children excluded me from public assistance (I was offered less than $20 in MUNI tokens, once, though, didn't seem worth the effort of the paperwork).
So - I have sold my car. My plan is to be completely debt-free before my 40th birthday. And then maybe I'll see about saving for retirement, though I am partial to the Ernest Hemingway plan around age 75 or so.
