We ventured out to my Mom's house. She's without power too but has a fireplace. It's much warmer. Lots of trees down and power lines laying around - sad and scary. Rachel Maddow opened her show talking about the weather. She tied it in with the stimulus plan and infrastructure spending. Not sure how well it played that once the ~1 million people who lost power got it back (or heard otherwise) that the improvement in the power grid was voted down by every GOP house member.

Still, they are gambling that America will fail. That the plan will fail. That they won't leave any fingerprints on it. Considering that the economy is cyclic and the 2010 election is still 22 months away...even if the economy just turns around, the Dems can claim it was the stimulus that was the reason. Heck, Bush claimed for years that the reason there wasn't a bigger recession was his tax cuts.

So America, while you're sitting there huddling in the dark and cold in January just remember that your GOP congresscritters got your back.

Finally, politics is perception. The Bush administration is seen as passing an unregulated stimulus package for investment bankers to keep their corporate jets. Now, the GOP voted against a stimulus package that is perceived mainly to put people to work. Good plan there Goppers....

Stay warm!!!
