Regular Peaches

Aug 20, 2011 16:10

We bought peaches at the farmer's market to make cobbler today. As we drove past a fruit stand advertising cheaper peaches, Iko said "Great. The groovy organic peaches are three times as much as the regular ones."

Hold it. I think there's a problem with the word 'regular' in this context. How about the peaches with synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, processed using irradiation and industrial solvents, that have chemical food additives are three times cheaper than the regular ones?

Over the life cycle of that peach and the Earth it grew from, what does 'cheap' even mean?
