Connor and Faith: A Trip to the Maul

Faith:I may never reach you...Seriously. My life? A total trip right now. First I get sprung by the lawyer who personally made sure that my ass ended up in the joint in the first place. For Angel of all people vampires. Cause Angel and his vamp chick popped a kid out who managed to somehow get kidnapped into an alternate dimension. Sure, I had my ( Read more... )

I shrug as she attempts to convince me she is as skilled a fighter as I am. Perhaps, she is close, but I believe that I could defeat her should we fight. However, I have no desire to truly test that theory tonight. At least not a fight to the death because I have enjoyed Faith's company thus far. I am still unsure about this world and she has been quite helpful in guiding me.

"You are very skilled, but you did not grow up in Quor'toth." I say, attempting to explain my position. "I have been slaying demons since I was very small. Perhaps, some time, we shall engage in friendly battle and we will see which of us is more skilled."

I smile at her to emphasize that I do not wish to kill her. Perhaps, she will not stand between Angelus and me when I track him down to complete my mission. However, if she should, then I will be prepared for her. It will be wise to test just how skilled a fighter she is before I need to engage her in a real fight.

"Yeah, well obviously you never went to Southie." I smirked at him as the a fleeting confusion passed over his eyes. "South Boston, it's where I grew up. Never mind." Putting the stake into my pocket I was kinda amused at how much like Angel he was. He'd learn right quick that I wasn't no damsel in distress though. Too bad that was his kink too, he was kinda cute. If not wicked strange.

"So for real, you always had superpowers? Even when you were a baby?" I asked with a slight lift of my eyebrow as the two of us walked out of the alleyway side by side.

That musta been intense. Wondered if life woulda been different if I'd been handed the slayer gig as just a kid. But nope, just woke up one day when I was fifteen and bam I was a slayer.

I pondered her question, trying to remember what I was like when I was very small. Father always said I was special, but I had no one to compare my skills too. My earliest memories are of my father having to protect me from the demons in Quor'toth. More than once, he nearly died while shielding me from hungry demons who viewed me as easy food. I am unsure of when I was able to defend myself, but it was not long before I was able to protect Father from the same beasts who used to track me ( ... )

"Yeah, well ya know. I always knew about vamps, knew how to stake 'em too. Only staked one before I actually became like super chick. One day I was out gettin' back from chillin' with my friends when this whack British chick comes outta nowhere to tell me I'm some kinda superhero. Didn't even notice it til she pointed it out to me. I was fifteen."

My eyes were like weapons, peering through the darkness as we made our way through the back alleys in the shady part of L.A. It had been so long and I was wicked out of practice. Might've taken Connor on his offer to spar with me but he was wicked strong. Gotta keep up my image ya know? Couldn't get spanked by the kid...well not in that sense anyway. Didn't wanna lose my edge.

"It's gotta be weird always havin' 'em." Dark eyes swept over him as I studied him. Definitely had a heart beat, not of the vampire variety. But he wasn't human. He was kinda like a boy slayer, not that there was any such thing. Wondered if there was any other weird stuff about him that I should know about.

"I would think it would be more..." I paused, before trying out the word, "weird to not have them until they suddenly appeared. It is easier when you have always been a certain way ( ... )

"Demons, hunting, blah blah blah. What about parties? Did Quor'toth have those?" I asked with a raised brow. Suddenly I knew exactly where I was takin' Connor tonight. Besides slaying there were only a few things that I'd missed while chillin' in an eight by ten. Fucking, drinking and dancing.

Plannin' on gettin' all those needs scratched sooner rather then later. It was about time Connor got his mind out of the hell dimension anyways. Things worked differently in L.A. then they did in Quor'toth, that much was wicked obvious already.

I'd just get us a hotel room with Lindsey's handy dandy credit card and then we could leave our stuff there and go dance it up. Hopefully, Connor wouldn't start tryin' to pick fights in a club, then again....sometimes bar fights were the most fun fights of all. Always knew I was gonna win those ones.

"Parties?" I asked, frowning in confusion. She shook her head at me. "I do not believe we had these parties you speak of." I paused for a moment before adding, "Unless that is a certain type of demon. Is parties a type of demon?"

I tilted my head, watching as her eyes grew wide. I had a feeling, judging by the look on her face, that parties was anything but a type of demon.

"You will show me then, yes?" I asked hopefully. "There is so much in this world that I do not understand."

"Bet your ass I'll show you. Check it out." I said as I nodded down the street, where some cheapass motel was comin' into view. Sure, I had a credit card courtesy of Lindsey, but some old habits died hard. And I got a habit of stayin' in trashy motels.

"We'll set up a place to crash, ditch the clothes." I nodded down at the plastic bag full of our new clothes that he was still gripping in one of his hands. "Then we'll head to the club. Get our dance on, drink on and see where the night takes us." I flashed him my most charming grin before striding down the sidewalk towards the motel.

Really hoped he was down for goin' out tonight. Cause I really couldn't just up and ditch his ass. Specially when he had such a hard on for takin' out Angel. Yeah, we were gonna have to talk about that again sometime seriously soon.

"You dance and drink with a club?" I asked, following her toward the hotel. "I suppose it is a good weapon to have. Though, a stake would be easier to keep concealed."

The look she shot me is one that I had grown accustomed too. It meant that I had once again misunderstood. Perhaps there was a book that explained this language. Apparently the English that Father taught me was quite different than what Faith was taught.

"A club is where you have parties? Not a weapon, right?" I asked, smiling when she nodded her head at me. Perhaps I would learn this language without a book as long as Faith was willing to teach me. "I do not know how to dance."

I couldn't help but let a wide grin break out over my face. Really gotta watch myself. Club. Course he'd think that was a weapon. He thought everything was a weapon. Couldn't even imagine what it used to be like in Quor'toth for him. Here I thought I had it bad growin' up with mom the alcoholic and gettin' locked in the closet every once in a while. He was makin' me look all kinds of normal.

Wondered what he would think if he knew I just got out of bein' incarcerated.

"That's okay. We'll get a few drinks in you and Ibet you'll be dancin' like nobody's business." I smirked at him as my boots pounded against the pavement outside of the motel. "But first we need a place to crash and leave our stuff."

"Crash." I repeated, following her into the hotel office as she paid for the room. I watched as she handed a small card to the person behind the desk. He barely glanced at it, shoving a piece of paper at Faith to sign before handing her a key.

The man behind the counter arched an eyebrow at me. "Little young to be with her aren't you?"

"I am old enough." I replied, narrowing my eyes at him.

"Yeah, make sure you don't track whatever the hell you have on your clothes into the room. You ruin the sheets, I'll charge you extra. I guess I better warn the maid she's going to need to bleach the shower once you get out of it." His tone was condescending, much like the people we encountered in the mall.

I opened my mouth to respond, but Faith tugged on my shirt and lead me out of the office. "Is there something wrong with me? Why do people react that way to me? I am not that young."

"There's nothin' wrong with you, Co- Steve." I said quickly. Damn, for a kid who didnt' grow up in this dimension he was still awfully insecure. "It's just, you can tell that you're like a tourist. People usually aren't all that nice to tourists. But no worries, we'll have you blendin' in in no time." I tried to smile reassuringly at him, but I wasn't sure how reassuring I could be. After all, when had I ever blended in? I was used to people lookin' at me. All the time, no matter what I did I drew attention to myself. Whether it was in the fucking supermarket or in prison. Same old story.

I nodded at Connor, as we approached our motel door. Sticking the key in the lock I opened the door and looked inside. Not too shabby, definitely seen worse. Lived in worse...mostly the Sunnydale Motor Inn. Now that was livin' at it's finest. Only not.

Walking in, I set some of our bags down on the bed before plopping down and pulling off my boots.

"If you want, you can have the shower first." I said to Connor as he shut the door behind us.
