The holiday gathering at my house was a success. My parents, grandmother, aunt and uncle and cousin came over for Chinese, games, and presents. This was the first time I've had more than 4 people in the house (the cats were not so happy about it). We played some apples to apples while Rob was out fetching our Chinese food. Unfortunately my sister called and kept my mom on the phone for pretty much the whole game, while my father was sitting there talking to his cousin for the whole game. I just think its really rude to do that, even if its family. They were on the phone for at least 30 minutes. Anyway, the food came and everyone was happy, I had the table set up really nice and even though it was a little crowded, it was nice to have everyone there. My dad seemed tired and sort of grouchy, but I guess that's how he always is. He's just usually more talkative.
The highlight of the evening was my mom getting stuck in the bathroom for 30 minutes. Somehow she locked herself in. I have no idea how she managed to do this. Rob ended up out back, standing on the top rung (not top step) of the step stool handing her tools. We couldn't get the door knob off and we thought we were going to have to break the door down, but somehow she got it unlocked.
After this we exchanged presents. This was the first time I really went shopping for Christmas presents, as usually we don't really celebrate Christmas and/or I'm not at home. But I had a lot of fun finding things for people. Rob got me an ipod nano, I am so psyched! Especially since my mini is dying. We gave my teenage cousin a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble and a tribal fusion bellydance DVD, as she was interested in bellydance and is sort of going through a rather goth-y/tattoo-ey phase. A wallet for my grandmother, purse for my aunt, orange fleece (Univ. of Tennessee) for my uncle, cashmere sweater for my mom, beer glasses for my dad, and two framed photographs I took at Glen Echo for both of them. I got Rob a wool sweater but there is one other thing I still have to get him.
It felt a little weird celebrating Christmas, and I was all weird about wrapping the presents, using neutral colors like silver and gold and blue. I mean, even if you aren't Christian, its not a bad thing to spend time with family.
Anyway I am back at work today dealing with the intern that is supposed to be helping me get shit done, but honestly he is just costing me a lot of time because I have to teach him to do everything. Its frustrating.
