Ok Chicago-ite, I've always wanted to ask you a few things:
1. WTF is the Circle Interchange? 2. Is Arlington Heights as nice and fancy as it sounds? 3. Did you always drive into Chi-Town or do public transportation? 4. Does Chicago have good public trans?
These aren't for any real reason, just out of curiosity. When my friend and I drove back from Ohio, we screwed up and didn't take I-80 to 294 or whatever to get around Chicago. Oh no. Instead we took I-90 (I think) and ended up on the g*damn Skyway, which was a really expensive (yes, I know 2 bucks isn't much, whatever) and LOOOONG way to go. Then all of a sudden we see a sign:
CIRCLE INTERCHANGE in 8 MINS
We were like, "Uh oh..." but we survived. And now you are probably laughing. But yeah, we also noted that the distance was measured in time, not actual distance, which is a common feature of the Midwest.
I am obsessed with things like this.
And all this time on the Skyway I was thinking, "How the hell do people live here?"
technically i'm a suburbanite, and i don't drive much, so i'm not really sure what the "circle interchange" is.
arlington heights is nice, but the really fancy suburbs are evanston and parts of northbrook, i think. but it has its share of ginormous houses.
i usually take the train or the el into chicago, since parking downtown sucks and is expensive. public transportation in chicago rocks-- there is the metro train, which ferried people in from the suburbs, the el, which goes all around the city, of course there are buses everywhere, and in the summer there is a FREE trolley that goes all round, especially near the touristy spots.
i like chicago. i like the el. i hate driving in chicago and i hate buses in chicago. well, i hate buses everywhere. not a bus person. but i think i could live in chicago, maybe go to grad school there--
yes! I loves those trollys! remember that one who said he was moving to MN in a couple years after he found out where some of us were from... I wonder if that ever really happend... and how could we forget the sining race car trolly guy, that was so much fun.
that was a great trip! Remember Cory got down on his knees and started headbanging? the driver said "HEY! BEVIS AND BUTT-HEAD! GET UP AND SIT DOWN!" it was a riot, that was a great trip. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lets go back, good lord i can't believe we actually did that.
1. I lived and worked in the Chicago suburbs for three years and I am not sure what the Circle Interchange is. Probably where the Skyway hits the Loop
