Fabu's subject line was "anything to get me writing"

and Catt and I were talking this weekend about how I've stalled out, though that may be because what I'm working on right now is kind of epic in length, so I am putting words down, but I'm not posting anything*, so it feels like I'm not writing. So let's do something short. I haven't written a kiss in a while. (For newcomers to this journal, when I ( Read more... )

Mario Lopez was trying to get Cameron Diaz to sing “Extra” on cue to one side and Joan Rivers was cackling on the other when he felt a light touch on his elbow. He apologized on automatic, pulling away, surprised when the touch came again. He glanced back to see an impossibly glamorous woman smile somewhat stiffly at him. “No, I was trying to get your attention. Waving really isn’t … well…” she glanced over to where random American Idol runner ups were throwing their arms joyfully around one another. Her own dress was beautiful, though restrictive, and Zachary realized who she was. He expected her to be shorter, though he couldn’t have guessed why.

He offered her his arm, impulsively formal, and she crinkled her eyes in amusement as she took it. “You’ll find these photos on the gossip magazines for the next five years, you know,” she said and he grinned at her.

“The movie publicist won’t mind.” He waved at a camera and tried not to blink as a dozen flashes went off at once. “And I’m honored.” He saw a cluster of familiar uniforms to one side and hesitated. She glanced in the same direction and pulled her arm free. She leaned in close, barely brushing his cheek with her lips.

“But you have another dance partner. Perhaps we’ll meet inside.”

He pulled her hand to his lips and did the Spock eyebrow twitch. Somebody got that on camera, surely, even if his back was to the cluster of Trekkers. She shook her head in amusement and entered the cinema as he turned to the ropes, pulling a pen from his suit pocket as he did so. Hollywood, man, who could believe it?

Wonderful! Exactly the kind of flirty-possibilities kiss I had hoped for.

Seriously. Fade to black is more my thing (or fade to sitting together in a dark cinema) is much more alluring than blatant holo-deck eroticism sometimes.
