“Admit it, you're lost,” Tom said, letting his pack fall with a thud to the ground and leaning his fishing pole against a tree. “You're lost and you have no idea where the lake is.”
“It's right around that bend,” Craig said, looking a bit annoyed, though more at himself than Tom. “I used to come here all the time as a kid.”
“That's what you said twenty minutes ago,” Tom said, leaning against the tree and crossing his arms, a clear signal that he was not moving until he got a better explanation. “And forty-five minutes ago, and an hour ago, and an hour and a half ago.”
“Come on,” Craig said, walking back to where Tom was standing. “Just think of it as an adventure,” he said as he set down his own pack. “The thrill of the journey.”
“I didn't want to go on a journey, I wanted to fish,” Tom said, lips pursing into a sight pout. “I brought my fishing pole all the way here just to fish.”
“Fine, I promise to get a map tomorrow,” Craig said, doing his best to ignore the teasing gloat forming on Tom's face. “But we still have two weeks here, so can you agree to just make the best of the rest of the day out here?”
“I guess so,” Tom said, sliding a little closer to Craig. “As long as you promise to hold my pole.”
