I really liked the book. I think the basic method presented is something everyone would benefit from, explosive or not. It's just good communication and problem solving skills in general.
I'm still thinking about how to best implement this with Mack. I'm using the "Emergency Plan B" when needed, but really you're supposed to find the triggers and use a "Proactive Plan B" instead.
There was an entire chapter about using this approach in the classroom. I'm loaning my copy on to Mack's teacher, because I want her to know what I'm doing with Mack at home and because I feel this would benefit ALL of her students.
Thanks for your opinion. I just might have to buy that one.
Glad it seems to be helping with Mack. It seems he's doing better in general lately (from the lack of commentary suggesting the opposite, I'm assuming this). I'm very happy for you and him that things are going so well.
Yes, Mack is doing better. We just adjusted his medication, and that has really helped decrease the mood swings and irritation he was experiencing. The book even talks about medicating explosive kids, with the acknowledgement that there are some things that just need that extra help that chemical living can provide.
