The Iron Druid Chronicles

Hounded, Hexed, Hammered, and Tricked are four fun lite reads about a 2,000 year old Irish druid who looks like a 20-something New Age hipster. In his long life, he's pissed off any number of gods in every culture, so he's become adept at blending in with the locals to avoid them. It hardly ever works. There's lots of action, magic and terrible puns as Siodhachan has to deal with mix-'n'matched batches of dangerously solipsistic deities. As you can imagine, author Kevin Hearne has borrowed a few ideas from Neil "Freaking" Gaiman's American Gods.

With 2000+ years of history to draw on, it's a shame that history isn't better researched or used more, and it's a shame the science isn't, but by the fourth book I got over it and just reveled in the silliness. Like, ok sure, a man who came of age before Jesus was born forces himself to think about a game invented 1700 years later in order to dampen his sexual reactions. What, were there no games in Ireland 2000+ years ago? They've just been waiting for baseball? No never mind, sure. Ok. And a druid who values all life pushes antibiotics. Sure. Ok. Cause it's a lot of fun. Very snarky wit, this fellow. Even makes fun of Victor Hugo.
