x: you have a valentine for valentine's day?
JenMarie827: not sure. but i decided like three years ago not to celebrate valentine's day because it was all depressing to single people, and a holiday made by card companies
x: wow, you suck the fun out of that one, didn't you?
JenMarie827: people shouldn't need one day to celebrate their love/fondness for eachother. it should be an everyday thing. i hate how people need holidays to do/show the things they should do every single day
x: I agree
JenMarie827: yup. i've put a lot of thought into this. lol
x: I can see
that conversation took place almost two weeks ago. but my thoughts haven't really changed on the subject. the same with christmas... and every other commercialized holiday that has lost all of it's meaning with time. that whole christmas spirit thing- you shouldn't need a holiday, or holiday season, to have compassion towards others. it should be an everyday thing. but that would be too hard for everyone, wouldn't it? so let's all just limit ourselves to two months a year, and the occasional holiday in between.
so, today is just another monday. yeah, i get my dose of slightly special treatment for being in a quasi-relationship. but it's not some extra important day that i'm going to put a lot of emphasis on.
besides, high hopes only leave you open to disappointment.
valentine's day, in it's essence, is all about love and caring. so those not in relationships, don't dispair. as long as you have friends and family here who care about you... that's all that really matters today. that's what today is all about. not card and candy sales.
to all of my friends and loved ones, i don't need a marked day on my calendar to show how much i care. you all know i love you. but, for today's sake, happy valentine's day.
