So Saturday was Montreal Comiccon and it was a lot of fun. But oh what a difference a few big name celebrities makes. It literally took me 3 hours to get in the door. It wasn't all bad. I met two cool girls from Ottawa and took a sadistic pleasure at listening to the sound people made when they turned a corner and realized the line was twice as long as they thought (I probably made the sound to be fair but by then I was well past it and secure in the knowledge that I only had 30-45 more minutes to wait ;P). Less fun was the guy who loudly proclaimed "no offense, but as my wife would say this is a lot of fuss for one jew." Seriously?! No offense?! This was probably the same guy who clipped his nails at Pia Guerra's table (ok, that's just wild speculation but I'd like to believe there was only one unpleasant person).
Once I got in, it was amazing though. I never did find H but I found Gail Simone right away. Like at Toronto there was basically no line to talk to her (only a girl who had brought all her issues of Secret Six, in bags, to be signed). She was wonderful as always, signed my books and looked at me. Her husband asked if she was wierd on Twitter. :D Next was Kelly who has a new baby and some awesome new comics. He'll be giving a class on comics too if anyone's interested.
There were so many awesome artists. Pia Guerra of course. Her sketches were way out of my price range but she did a quick drawing in my notebook for free. I got an autograph and sketch from the amazing Stan Sakai and bought the Gargoyles Bad Guys comic from the woman who did the art. Thierry Labrosse did a BD called Ab Irato about Montreal 100 years from now and he chatted with me while he drew a sketch in my copy of the book. I went to see Benoit Godbout and Michel Lacombe like every year to get the new Academie des chasseurs de prime and a new sketch.
Finally I found an artist doing inked art for a reasonable price and I asked her if she could draw me a Loki and she laughed and told me that she had worked on that book. The picture is awesome, I'll show you all soon.
I also went to see James Marsters. I didn't get my picture taken with him. The long lines made that impossible but I did talk to him, shake his hand and get an autograph. OMG is he gorgeous and charming. I'm pretty sure I didn't drool. Micheal Dorn was much more subdued, and like Brent Spiner last year, it was shocking to see how much he had aged. Marina Sirtis meanwhile was so vibrant and beautiful. When I saw her she was laughing and comparing her height to the 7ft guy who had come to see her. I didn't see Adam West; there were guys in army fatigues blocking the view of him at all times. I didn't even try to see Stan Lee, the lines were almost as bad as the entrance.
Aside from that I did some shopping (read a lot of shopping). I found all the Spiderman Loves Mary Jane that I was looking for! Some Stormwatch and Authority too but not a single Nightwing. I'm also the proud owner of a Gambit and a Loki action figure.
I ended the day with a Gail Simone talk.
Now I have a cold and am miserable because there was no avoiding work today.
