Some random sayings I saw in a shop that I don't want to forget (I was too cheap to buy them so I just remembered them):
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail? (Answer: Run for President. God save us all.)
Do one thing every day that scares you. -Eleanor Roosevelt (Hooo... Laura, remember when I had to be her for Odyssey of the Minds, and I sucked royally? Haha.)
Dance like no one is watching you
Love like you've never been hurt before
Sing like no one can hear you
Live like heaven is on earth
Life is not about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.
What counts is not the years in your life. It's the life in your years.
Enough of that. Moving on...
I think I'm gonna be brief. Got there the first day and just chilled. The second day we walked to Northwestern, but first walked around the small town of Evanston... as expected, I got us lost in the crap part of town, but of course it HAD to be in the middle of my mother's and my conversation about different ways to say... just read it.
Mom: "I'm telling you, there is NO other way to say some words. Like..." *lowers voice* "...like fuck."
Jen: "How about" *raises voice* "go at it?"
*suspicious looking man in front of us turns around and slows down*
Mom: "Uuhhh... yeah, okay, I guess that would work..."
The campus was gorgeous, but as soon as I learned that NW gets about 6 physics students per year, I definitely scratched it off my list.
Later that day we got on metro to go to downtown Chicago and see this Jackie Kennedy display in some museum. Too bad we ran out of sidewalk... and ended up walking down and crossing a three-lane (each way) road. NOT a good plan. We had, literally, about 6 inches between the cars and the railing. Very illegal too... ha, whoops.
And of course, after all that, we missed the display thingy. Damn you, Chicago, YOU TOTALLY SHUT DOWN at 4. But at least we got to go to the 95th floor of the John Hancock building and eat a nice dinner... the whole city was so small... ahhhh....
The next day we got picked up by one of Mom's friends and we saw U of Chicago. It was nice and gothic... a little TOO gothic, actually... and just seemed kind of... boring. I'm sorry, but I'm just not a fan of this city in general. And there was NOWHERE to hang out, NOTHING to do besides study. Blah. Off the list.
So we got to the airport, and our first flight to Detroit got delayed by an hour, so naturally our connecting plane to Dulles left EARLY and we missed it. So we got stuck in Detroit, got to a hotel at midnight, woke up at 4:45 to go back to the airport, and now I'm finally home.
Blah. I want my vacation back.
