Miss my mom so much....and I knew as the holidays came around, we'd feel her absence pretty hard. On Thanksgiving, my Dad and I teamed up and cooked the meal together....there were those moments when we had questions on how to cook something that we knew she would have been able to answer for us. And cutting the turkey...my mom always did it. Christmas though....this will be the hardest. She loved Christmas. She knew the words to every Christmas song and loved to decorate. My Dad and I put up his tree together the other day and we talked about how my Mom would have been sitting there, happily watching us put up their years worth of ornament, each with a special meaning or story behind them...dating back to 1979. I knew she was there though, even if we couldn't see her.
Teagan is doing great and is doing awesome in school. She has gotten nothing but 100% on each of their weekly reading tests since they started them! So proud of her <3 She is loving dance and can't wait to officially start their competition season this February! The Santa Parade was seriously one of the cutest things I have ever seen. I am so glad Teagan gets to be a part of this amazing team.
We also welcomed a new puppy this past weekend. We were back and forth about getting another German Shepherd or possibly a Golden Retriever but decided that one big dog was enough, so we opted for a smaller breed. We settled on a Miniature Australian Shepherd and brought home "Evie" on Sunday :) She is a total sweetheart with icey blue eyes. I thought Iris was going to be a little territorial at first when we brought Evie inside to introduce them, but to my surprise Iris didnt even flinch or bark at the sight of Evie (likely because she could tell this puny little pup was no threat to her, lol). The cats puffed up really big at first sight but they came around really quickly and all is well with all 4 of animals in our mini zoo ;) Iris and Evie play all the time (which is what we wanted!)and we have trained Iris to "get a toy" whenever she wants to play with Evie so she doesn't accidentally hurt Evie since their size difference is so big...it's worked really well. They play keepaway and have now started to play tug of war too.
I am excited that Teagan only has 1 more week of school before she goes on break for 2 weeks. Can't wait to make the most of her days off :) She will also be off for those 2 weeks from dance so I am happy that we will be completely commitment free during break! Can't wait to hang out with my Dad, see our friends and family, do festive holiday things, and hey.... maybe even just relax in our house and do NOTHING on some of those days ;) How nice does that sound!? Teagan came out of left field and asked Santa for an Easy Bake Oven (and more unicorns, of course). We are starting a 4 gift rule this year(something she WANTS , something she NEEDS, something she WEARS, something she READS) plus a Santa gift. It's really helped limit our spending and helped us not go overboard on gifts. She is SUPER excited to GIVE this year too. She pulled a tag off the giving tree at school so we went out and bought a gift for a little boy. She brought it to school today and proudly walked her wrapped gift in to school to turn it in <3 You should have seen her smile! She loves to give gifts but I have never seen her so happy to give to someone she has never seen or even met. It's moments like those when I realize that I'm doing something right ;)
