Round Lake was awesome, as always. Justin and I went there on Thursday and got home last night. What a great time we had.
Joel and Jason came up Friday night (LATE on Friday). Also, my parents were there and my brother and his girlfriend. I'll write more about all of that later on.
In the meantime, I finished school the day that we left. I took my last test Thursday morning and did alright on that. I believe these are my grades:
Advanced Cataloging: A
Intro: A
Reference: A-
Records Management: B+
Damn B+. I was hoping for all A's and A-'s this semester but became so burnt out on the RM class that I just lost interest and patience and started sucking with the assignments. Ah well.
And, in other news, aside from the week of class that I have from the 7-11th this month, I won't have class again until September 5th. Since my schedule is so choppy (Justin and I will be going out of town for a week in August, so that and my one week class is making my summer chopped up into weird chunks. Anyway, my point is, I can't really try to land a job this summer, because I can't say "Ok, give me next week off, then I can work a week, then give me the next week off, then I can work two weeks, then I need Tuesday and Thursday off during the next semester"....I don't think its really going to work that way.
Instead, I have decided to send a few e-mails out to a few places in hopes of snagging a volunteer position somewhere. I e-mailed the Library of Michigan first, because I had done some observation work there for a few weeks for a class and got to know a few of the people there. I also e-mailed someone about becoming a literacy tutor, and then I sent out one more e-mail...but I can't remember what for now.
Also, as an assignment for my Intro class, we were asked to write book reviews and got the very basic run down of how to do so. Once I finally chose the book I wanted to review, I had a blast doing so and thought I did a decent job of it. I started looking online for places to submit reviews to, and it sounds like I shouldn't have too hard of a time getting something "published" online, so I am going to take a trip to the library very soon to find a couple of books to review, then am going to see what I can do about getting those reviews published. Not only is it good to put on my resume, but it is also good practice. Librarians often have to write book reviews, and what better way to get decent at it than to practice it! I am really excited, because this ties in with my goal of reading a lot in these few weeks off, and gets my name out there too.
Thats all for now.
