So I read this question: "If you would be granted one wish within the next five minutes, what will you wish for?"
First thing that came to mind? I WANNA GO TO FRANCE AND LIVE THERE, EVEN JUST FOR A MONTH. LET ME EXPERIENCE FRANCE, PLEASE!
I don't even know why I'm so obsessed with anything French. I've been in love with Paris (and France of course) forever. The French have not been well represented in films. They are stereotyped as rude and inconsiderate, yet I have experienced generally friendly people. I met French people during college, and also one when I was in Beijing. They are typecast as heavy smokers, wine drinkers, over-the-top romantics, and a nation of butter-eating fine diners. Well, okay, there's that. I really don't have a problem with wine drinking (I love wine!) and fine dining. I LOVE to eat! Maybe if I live there I'll gain weight? Haha. And who's complaining about being romantic? Romantic guys are essential to one's [love]life, haha.
So, in honor of the many great French people I have met so far, here are some of my favorite film quotes about the French -
"I don't know what they taught you in France, but rude and interesting are not the same things."
French Kiss (1995) - Kate (Meg Ryan)
"To be with another woman, that is French. To be caught, that is American."
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) - Inspector Andre (Anton Rodgers)
"I think we should go to Paris. We'll be surrounded by rude French people. It should bring us closer."
Til There Was You (1997) - Bob (Reg Rogers)
"You need to speak English or French. Frenglish is not a language."
D.E.B.S. (2004) - Janet (Jill Ritchie)
"I know better than to argue romance with a French woman."
Big Fish (2003) - Will Bloom (Billy Crudup)
"You know what the French call an orgasm? La petite morte. "The Little Death." Come on, Tiffany. Let's die a little."
Bride of Chuckie (1998) - Damien (Alexis Arquette)
"Time. Time. What is time? Swiss manufacture it. French hoard it. Italians squander it. Americans say it is money. Hindus say it does not exist. Do you know what I say? I say time is a crook."
Beat the Devil (1953) - O’Hara (Peter Lorre)
"I'd like to French pastry myself to death, right now."
Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) - Marilyn (Joy Behar)
"As the French say, that certain "I don't know what"."
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) - Dr. Evil (Mike Myers)
Cheers, mes amis!
