Writing down the happenings may be also a way to get over it. I hope for you that this will help you to process. (óò)
I already experieced some 5 rank earthquakes (with after-quakes) in japan, so i can imagine what a hard time it must have been with that many earthquakes in a row. Specially with that many strong ones and all the bad news and horrible pictures / videos on TV. Most japanese friends saied: the worst part was, that the earth seemed not to stop shacking for days. We had "the luck" that we were still in europe when this happened. Our flight was planed to take off just a few days after the tsunami... we canceled everything.
Last year after rethinking all "risks" i still went to japan. To be honest, if you have the money and want to go back, then do so ! The people in japan are more welcoming and warmhearted than ever before. And they are so grateful for every "tourist" coming over and showing them their support. And as already saied of the others, it may also help you to handle the happenings.
You just have to keep in mind: the land is infested by radioactivity from fukushima and it is a problem ! You can't let that fact slip away and pretend there's everything "alright" now. Most fish you're eating in Tokyo is coming from an area near the disaster area and mostly even coming from near fukushima. Not only the fish, but also the rice and vegetables, etc. contain more radioactivity then usualy. It's true that it's not enough radioactivity in one fish to worry about it, but summing it up ... well .. you know what i wanna say, right ? But also keep in mind: we had Tschernobyl ! The radioactivity that got out there and infested everything is still here and we are still alive.
I don't want to worry you with the last part, but i know so many people being all 'everything is alright now in japan !', which just refuse to believe that the country still has many problems in front of them.... But if you know what you're geting into and how to handle it, everything's "alright". The only reason i would suggest you not to go over there, is when you wish to give birth to a child soon. (^__~)
About your Dad .. he's like mine. My dad still doesn't understand why i was really down when all this happened, saying stuff like: "what's the problem ? you were not involved ! You got your money back and that's the counting part." But that i have friends over there and even one got missing and stuff like that .... That he, and also my co-workers, made non-stop jokes about japan and the situation didn't helped at all ... Really just ignore him ! People like that don't wana understand it and will never do.
I hope for you that this will help you to process. (óò)
