Title: Eiji's Letter to Ash
Notes: Companion piece to
Sing's Letters to Ash, can also be read as a stand-alone. Spoilers for the entire series.
Disclaimer: I am slave to the boys, I have no free will. I mean, Banana Fish belongs to Yoshida Akimi.
Dear Ash,
How are you
I should’ve
I’m sorry
Sing tells me that he’s been writing you. That it helps and I should try it.
The bitter part of me, the part that seems larger than life nowadays, sneers at his blatant sarcasm. Sing knows full well that my last letter to you got you killed.
Sing doesn’t know I know. The good in me, the part that's steadily withering away to dust, whispers that he’s still a kid. Couldn’t have known better. Cannot be blamed. Doesn't stop me though.
Ash, are you surprised? You never got to know this part of me. You lived your life with the intensity of a thousand fiery suns. You brought out out the best in me and eclipsed my darkness.
I miss you. I wish it weren't partly for the wrong reasons.

Note: When I started read Banana Fish at the age of 16 or so, Eiji was my role model! He was so earnest and gentle and good! 'Garden of Light' revealed a darker, more human side of him which I felt added to the weight of his relationship with folks. I wanted to explore that a bit more, but then my brain got tired, ahaha.
