massive uf update! almost as big as tim tebow's breakfast...
hi my name is jenna and i know i am going to love college. just putting that out there :). i am really happy i went to uf because i know i will be happy there if i do decide to take advantage of bright futures, and, obviously, if i get in. i guess the reasons why and what i learned during this past weekend is best explained by what happened. i will try not to forget anything, but i am sure i will. that is, until i hit the post button.
so friday my mom dropped margaret and i off at the pompano service station on the turnpike. the bus really wasn't that bad at all. it was a relatively fast ride and having margaret there, and having her try to distract me from being productive, is always entertaining lol. she always puts everything in perspective for me and sometimes tells me things i don't want to hear lol, but that i need to soooo i pretty much love her. ANYWAY we got to uf a little after six. i wish we had gotten there before because if we had lauren could have taken us onto the field in the swamp! boooo not getting to go on the field. so we got there and we were walking back to chloe's dorm (she lives in jennings) and i run into izzy! i was like oh my god you are in college! it was funny. and then i called lauren to tell her while we were lugging our suitcases up the (not air conditioned) stairwell and she couldn't find her gator one (her id) so i had to let her in, it was pretty funny. then we got all dressed up and went out to this delicious place called the mellow mushroom with two of margaret and chloe's guy friends from boca high, sean and cory. cory is a juggler. yea, more on him later lol. then we walked around downtown gainesville and people watched all of the very drunken patrons (one guy came up to us and was like would it matter if i told you i had hpv? would you still date me? and we were like YES it does and NO we wouldnt lol). so then we decided to go back to chlo's dorm (thankfully her roommate went home for the weekend) so we got on the later gator, which is this bus that takes very drunk people back to their dorms. we actually got on it going in the wrong direction, but that was fine because it gave us more time to chat with a preschool teacher who was really sweet but had a few too many lol. her guy friend kept calling people and telling them to order drinks, and then instead of saying goodbye he would say "bro up". bros are like fraternity brothers, really preppy boys, pretty much griffin buser lol, so of course we couldn't stop laughing at that. then that night there was an undie run. people meet at a place dressed, take off their clothes to donate, and then run around gainesville in their undies! hahahhaha we saw a couple of those people, it was quite amusing. so that was just the first day...
saturday was football day. there were four of us going to the game and i was the only one without a ticket, so we actually bought one of the facebook marketplace. facebook is so effective. then we went to this restaurant that everyone goes to called the swamp, which was delicious. let's just say if i end up going to uf i am going to have to use the gym very frequently. we walked around and ran into people we knew and saw tailgaters and bought stuff and it was so cool to see everyone get so into it. AND THEN (and then and then and then) we went tailgating with their friend danny (who was margaret's prom date) and his family, it was so fun. the problem was that margaret and i had tickets in the student section, and you need a gator one to sit in the student section, which danny had neglected to inform us until then. so, jokingly i turn to cory (who looks like prince charming from shrek, i swear!) and i'm like give me your gator one. so he gave it to me, and i used it! lol it was great. i just put my thumb over the picture/name/everything except the thing that says gator one lol. the marching band was AMAZING and there are so many cool traditions and i love college football so much. but tim tebow was not playing as he should have been but i am still in awe, so its all good. after the game all of the gator fans were just sitting there. we were like no, they didn't lose, that doesn't happen! oh well, next time. i am just going to have to go up to another game!
sunday we slept in and then went to one of the dining halls for breakfast. again, i am going to have to use the gainesville gym A LOT if i go there. they have these waffles that are so so good and they have a uf gator in the middle of them. thats what makes them so good, obviously. and then we went to go say goodbye to the boys and we were back on the bus and i called becca so that took up half of the bus ride because she told me more than two stories lol and we were planning homecoming and whatnot. and now i am home.
the one thing i learned from all this is to throw myself into the college experience. it is so easy at any florida state school just to stay friends with your friends and no one else. that's kind of what chlo did. to fix that you just need to get involved, and i will do that anywhere. otherwise my name isn't jenna heffernan lol.
