Next up--- The books that I loved just because they were fun.
I read very few adult series, but I *love* the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill. In Merit's world, vampires have come out of the closet, and there are different houses that each vampire belongs to. Merit is part of the Cadogan House and Cadogan's Master, Ethan Sullivan, is, for lack of a better word, OHMYGAWDHOT. In the first book, he was described as resembling David Beckham. But David Beckham can't take on a room full of enemies with his bare hands and win. Twice Bitten is the third book in the series. The second I get my hands on one of these books, I read until my eyes cross.
Holly Black could write a book about talking mushrooms and I'd read it. But I was worried when I first opened White Cat because, whereas her previous books were written in third person past tense, this was first person present. Now, I used to *hate* present tense, but lately, with its gain in popularity, I'm really loving it. And Holly Black pulls it off.
Cassel Sharpe comes from a family of mob-like curseworkers. I loved the crime family element. I loved how smart Cassel was. It was a book that kept me turning pages and by the end, I was ready for the next. But, one tiny plea, Holly Black, would you put Big Brother Barron in every scene? Please?
