Bad Car Karma

Nov 06, 2007 20:40

There's a thread on Verla's right now about what kind of small cars are reliable and I posted to say don't buy a Chevy Corsica and realized while typing that my bad car luck is a lot worse than I originally thought.

So I'm going to talk about the cars I've had in the past and what went wrong with them because it's actually pretty funny.

The first two ( Read more... )

My dad has fixed many of my problem cars too. I had a Mercury Zenith in college -- worked okay except the radiator didn't hold water so I had to drive around with gallons in my trunk...and even then, I called my dad no fewer than five times from all over the Metro area and he had to come fetch me.

With my Nissan Sentra, it vapor-locked at the drop of a hat -- and my dad got used to hearing from me at any time there, too. Now we have Subarus (which we love, as we have two that are almost identical). If I ever have enough money to buy another car, it'll be another Subaru (they really are great cars, heh). Did you know they're the CO state car? If you go to a large parking lot, I'll bet 50% of the cars there are Subarus...he-he.

Subarus, huh? My mother-in-law really loves her Corolla. I hear foreign cars are the way to go, but, coming from a family of mechanics, I'd get an earful about buying one. Maybe I'll just do it anyway!

Isn't it nice to have a father who's mechanically inclined? I'd be lost without my dad. Or broke.

I'll vouch for Subarus-- mine is a 2002 Forester with 122K miles on it. Great, and will get you through bad weather

I LOVE my Corolla and will totally buy one again (unless I had the money for a Subaru). Bad cars in my past = Ford Temp and Mercury Topaz. Gah!

OMG---Tempos! Is that what you meant, Tempo?

I have to take my car in to the body shop in two weeks to get it fixed and the loaner we're getting is a Tempo! I'm like, NOOOOO! I wanted to weep. Or say, "Uh, do you have anything else?" But I didn't want to sound like a car snot.

UGH, our Tempo was brutal. We literally started to wonder if it was cursed. Terrible, terrible car. The day we were finally able to get rid of it was fantastic.

My first car was a burgundy 1990 Chev Corsica LT! I wrecked that thing so many times and had to get rid of it because it was falling apart. But I remember it fondly.

I have to say, the Honda Accord I've been driving for the past few years has been quite a trooper in comparision though.

OMG! You had a burgundy/maroon Corsica too?! I think that makes us somehow related in the cosmos of car ownership. We've suffered together! We're survivors! hehe

Honda Accord, huh? I'll have to check that out online. I'd like to make a list of good cars for when we go looking again. Right now I'm leaning toward an Oldsmobile, maybe an Alero. Or a Chrysler. My grandfather really loves his Chrysler.

My dad was an ace at fixing my cars too when I was younger. Now I have an ace husband.

My first car was a Pacer. Just like in Wayne's World. Does that age me. Yes. Yes it does.

I have had soooooooo many cars in my life because I was a sales rep for 15 years and got a new car almost every year. I was spoiled, but they were company cars so I didn't feel any pride. Since quitting work I've driven a piece of poop Honda Accord that was almost as old as me. Well not really, a van, an old Explorer, an Intrepid and now an older Van again. Mostly I get my husband's old hand me downs. He is now driving a sweet Infinity G35 X that talks to him and adjusts his seat and has heating in the seats. He is very spoiled.

Mr. Jen is not a mechanic. AT ALL. He's good with electronics, but not cars.

I looked up the Infinity G35. WOW! Your husband is spoiled. I'm jealous! Someday I'll have a sweet car like that!

Oh, man I hate car trouble.

I loved the bits where the day you bought it, you drove it home in a cloud of smoke, and how you had to climb in thru another door. LOL! (LOL for me. You were probably not LOLing)
