I’m anxiously waiting for Monday to be over. The Caucuses will be over, and the sea of political ads and commercials will be over until April or so. At least it’s not a Republican Caucus. Last year, I read an article in Rolling Stone about John Kerry and at the time he was only considering a run for the presidency. Tonight they announced on MSNBC that he is ahead in the polls by 2%. I couldn’t jump on the Dean band-wagon (sorry Jason!) so Kerry is getting my vote. Though, in my opinion, Bubbles the Chimp couldn’t mess up the economy or the war in Iraq more the George W. has, so I’m pretty confident that John Kerry will suffice!
Enough politics…..
In other news, Shawn is starting classes on Tuesday. He’s going to Hamilton College, a business school. I’m really anxious for him to get through with school. He’s going on 30 and I’d like to see him in a career he’s really happy in. The company he’s working for right now is paying for his tuition. Shawn was a little hesitant at going back to school. Yes, my husband has a problem with a little word we’ll refer to as ambition! I think it dates back to his trailer park days. I know…that’s a terrible thing to say, but the fact is, his parents never stressed the importance of a college education, and because of that upbringing, he doesn’t understand how many doors this will actually open up for him.
But thanks to a little nagging from me (i.e. ….. “We’re not moving back to California until you have a college degree in your hand.”) And a few encouraging phone calls from Jason, our successful college-educated friend who has an ocean-view from his California Apartment, Shawn has made up his mind that passing up a FREE college degree would be stupid. So, he starts classes Tuesday!!!
So…what other mundane news can I bore you with tonight???? Oh yes….we’re speaking to Shawn’s parents again. His mother had MAJOR heart surgery right before Thanksgiving, so that sort of helped to bridge the gap. I’m still irritated at them, and they still think I’m a stuck up bitch, but we’re at least being civil. Alice had septuple-bypass surgery and is recovering well.
Connor is doing great. He’ll be nine months on the 30th. He’s crawling all over the place and is trying to pull himself up to things. We have acquired two female rats. They’re not as gross as I thought they’d be, but they definitely don’t take the place of my husky that we had to get rid of due to the no-pet policy in our apartment. So Shawn wanted a rat, and of course, we ended up with two. He promised that once we get a the bird he’s wanted forever that he won’t put the rats and the bird in the same cage. (don’t ask….a childhood trauma where he tried to get his rat and his bird to play together….it didn’t end happily for either party involved!!)
