I want to make a mix cd for someone, I think.
I don't know who.
It's just a nice passtime, because it makes me think and try to guess about what a person might like to hear and what I might like them to hear and what order might be neatest to hear things in and how to balance things nicely or maybe give them a track of an artist they love that they've never heard or haven't heard in that context.
I like those sorts of things and processes I guess.
Track list of a disc I made for a friend this spring:
Doo Right- Man Man
How Will I Ever Find My Way Home- British Sea Power
Promises Like Pie Crust- Carla Bruni
Old Flames- Harlem Shakes
One Step Inside Doesn't Mean You Understand- The Notwist
General Lafayette! You Are Not Alone!- Lost At Sea
The Cowbell Song- AM Syndicate
Lovely Guilty- Visqueen
Lull- Andrew Bird
Boys, You Won't- The Wrens
Saturday (Reprise)- Cut Copy
Light in the Room- Caleb Engstrom
Summer Romance- The Redwalls
Feed the Tree- Belly
Roscoe- Midlake
M'bife- Amadou & Mariam
These Few Presidents- Why?
Slip Is Showing- Annie Hayden
Going Blind- The Go-Betweens
Take Me Lonely- Eastern Lane
Children- Delta Spirit
I regret not putting any Silent Years on, or any Ra Ra Riot(despite the fact the cds owner knows there stuff.) But I'm pretty happy with the ratio of smaller to larger and local to national acts on the disc. I also like that I listen to most of this stuff a good deal, but I think the cd sticks pretty closely to the person's musical tastes without hitting too many names they've heard before.
